John Edwards will announce!
Yes. An Edwards/Obama ticket is unbeatable. They've got intelligence, compassion, articulation all going for them.

1. I just read that he already announced.
His web site kinda went alittle off and his announcement was played tonight and all the tv stations have it and it's out. He left some apology. Doesn't look good.

5. There is no excuse for voting for the IWR
Obama yes, Gore yes, and any other Democrat who had the courage NOT to vote for that unconstitutional resolution which gave the president unlimited powers to declare war. A direct violation of the War Powers Act, and the intent of the Constitution, that only Congress can declare war

6. Neither Obama or Gore were in office at the time.
I'm so sick of this. It is easy to say you never supported the IWR when you weren't in office at the time. Please tell me about the courage you talk about? THEY WEREN'T IN OFFICE. There was NO vote for them to cast. Rhetoric is not casting a vote.

Edwards has publicly apologized for his vote...over and over again. He has admitted it was a mistake. However....he is NOT responsible for the way this war has been run. He owes no one an apology for that.

His heart is in the right place.

8. They spoke up against it, and that is significant. Edwards apologized, big deal
tell that to the DEAD Iraqiis

tell that to the DEAD Americans

This is not forgiven with a simple appology

but apart from all that, it was a violation of our constituion, and the war powers act, and enough people in Congress, including Byrd, Feingold, Kucinich, and others saw that.

You cannot blame somebody because they didn't vote, but you can blame somebody who did

I voted for Kerry in 2004, I will NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE FOR PRESIDENT WHO SUPPORTED THE IWR, because that was an attack against the Constitution, and the American people.

7. Thanks for your post.
I just started a thread about Edwards(lol, which will sink like all of mine) but you just gave me something to think about. I like that. Especially when it challenges what I was already thinking.

10. I voted for Kerry in 2004, but was extremely conflicted with his vote on the IWR
My post was NOT meant to sink your thread, and I hope it doesn't. After everything that has happened over the past six years I have changed. The war powers act was a result of Viet Nam.

There are enough potential Democratic candidates that lean left, right, and center, that were against the IWR

Everyone will have to evaluate for themselves why they would or would not vote for a particular candidate

I don't live in Pennsylvania, but as an example Casey was won against santorum, and I am glad he beat santorum, but if I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have been quite conflicted with his position on abortion and the IWR
