6. There was a fire in a mine in Canada
Thankfully, all the miners were safe and sound. Canadian laws and American laws are different. I believe the fire happened earlier this week.

9. Dammit! I hadn't heard about that.
That really stinks. Sympathies to his family. But this is still not the same as getting trapped in a mine. Thanks for the info.

4. I rather doubt this administration would do that for good motives.
If they did it at all it would simply to be to create an energy shortage by cutting off coal supplies.

5. It's about two more dead coal miners today in Wv and another...
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 06:10 PM by Hubert Flottz
miner injured in three separate accidents. Governor Joe Manchin shuts down all mining in the state and demands inspections in EVERY mine in the state before they resume production. The New mine wars might be starting!

13. Hope the issue of unions as the protector of workers
takes off here. It would also be a good time for grass root Dem organizations to show workers that fighting for their rights and improved working conditions is a better option than hoping for miracles after their men are dying underground.

Who knows maybe this is the catalyst we need - change demanded by the working class. Good on you Gov.

12. At the subcommittee meeting on Monday, Specter, Harkin & Byrd
discussed the possibility of shutting down the mines that have multiple violations, on-going.

The activist conservative courts have been lowering the fines by up to 90% for years.

15. revolt of the governors
good for him, as far as i'm concerned, no more mining until the miners are treated properly and decent conditions provided

down here in louisiana our governor has said this: Blanco: No offshore signoffs unless La. gets royalty share --
Money could finance hurricane protection

since all the evil fucks care abt is the energy industry, apparently shutting down the energy is what we have to do to get some righteousness around here

this is a good day
