I submitted the following email to John Edwards:
My question is quite simple, why did you vote for the IWR?

If I get a response I will post it.

13. What are the other candidates' positions on gay marriage?

I'll have to do some research--do others running support gay marriage?

14. I think it will be a mixed bag because the country as a whole is still divided
on this issue. Of course that does not make it right, but that is reality

I think saying it is a states rights issue is a cop out, because this is obviously a civil rights issue, however supporting civil unions I think is a good compromise because it takes the religious aspect out of the discussion. Unfortunately, many want to force their beliefs on others.

The issue is easy, there should not be discrimination, but in reality it is a very tough issue because the country is screwed up about it, and it was things like this that hurt the Democrats in 2004

It will be brought up, and we will see if people are stupid enough to vote against their own interests again, on issues like this, that would NOT even affect them. What business is it of anyone, the uniting of two people who are consenting age?

7. Here's some of Edwards' GLBT positions:
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 03:28 PM by Lex
He may have updated some of this recently:

Employment Non-Discrimination: Edwards supports a federal bill that would outlaw job discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Gender Identity Employment: Edwards is undecided on a federal bill to outlaw workplace discrimination based on gender identity and expression.

Hate Crimes: Edwards supports expanding federal Hate Crimes Law to include sexual orientation.

Same-Sex Marriage: Edwards opposes same-sex marriage, but he does not think the Constitution should be amended to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

On 2/24/04 Edwards said in response to President Bush's proposed Constitutional amendment, "I am against the president's constitutional amendment on gay marriage...I don't personally support gay marriage myself. My position has always been that it's for the states to decide."

Family Medical Leave: Edwards is undecided on extending Family Medical Leave Act to same-sex couples.

Same-Sex Immigration: Edwards is undecided on legislation that would allow American citizens to sponsor their same-sex partners for immigration into the country.

Gay and Lesbian Adoption: Edwards supports giving same-sex couples the same rights to adopt children as heterosexual couples.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell: Edwards supports the rights of gays, lesbians and bisexuals to serve openly in the United States Military.

Edwards Comments: On Don't Ask, Don't Tell: "As the recent discharge of Arabic language specialists demonstrates, the current policy does not serve our national interests and should be changed."

On Hate Crimes: "I am an original cosponsor of the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act, which adds protections based on sexual orientation to hate crimes legislation."

3. What I want to know is...
Why don't Democrats bring up the fact that the clause in the Iraq War Resolution was that Bush was to provide Congress with written proof that Saddam was directly involved in 9/11. He delivered this letter to Congress just before the bombing began. (I just learned this recently from Thom Hartmann.)

Where is this letter? Whatever it says would obviously be Bush's lie (and grounds for impeachment written by his own hand).

Why has this issue gotten no attention? Does anyone have any more detail on this? Thanks...

11. I did not realize that. Perhaps it is because Congress did not do THEIR job
However, I do believe when we take over Congress that investigations will yield much impeachable evidence

12. Agreed...they'll be tripping over impeachable evidence...
...but as for the Iraq War Resolution vote, it looks like everyone voted to invade Iraq only if it was proven that Saddam was behind it, which doesn't excuse the vote but it does make it more reasonable...and it puts ALL of the onus back on Bush. (IMHO)
