Normally, they call me to tell me, but I guess they know me well enough by now? Thanks to the DUers who gave me the good editing suggestions.
Joe's back to his old self With his call for additional soldiers to be sent to Iraq in order to escalate the war, Sen. Joe Lieberman is again showing that he is either being disingenuous or is completely divorced from reality.
At least when fellow Sen. John McCain calls for this escalation in Iraq, we know it is purely politics. Having just won an election, Lieberman should have no reason to play politics with the lives of soldiers, especially when only 11 percent of the country supports Bush's idea of a military escalation in Iraq.
Additionally, Lieberman's call for escalation is in direct opposition to Gen. John Abizaid, Colin Powell, and the unanimous opinion of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Abizaid spoke with all of the commanders in Iraq. All said an escalation did not increase their chance of success. Whose judgment is more trustworthy?
When the number of troops in Baghdad was increased last summer by moving them to the capital from other parts of Iraq, violence and casualties increased dramatically in the Iraqi capital. Lieberman is now calling for this failed strategy to be implemented on a larger scale over all of Iraq.
