1. THAT's where our Marines should be. Not Iraq. Couple a Marine divisions
would make short fucking work of those murderous thugs.

But nooooo.....

2. Save the women and children
it seems that it's always the women of Africa who have to pay the heaviest price of these war lords and militias roaming, raping and pillaging at will.

3. Oil behind tears for Darfur
"Since February 2003, when the Darfur rebellion erupted, Washington and the EU all but ignored the atrocities taking place in Darfur in the hope that they would not impact on the main game. Only when the escalating crisis in Darfur threatened to derail the north-south peace deal and prevent the opening up of Sudan's lucrative oilfields to Western exploitation did the US start waving the threat of UN sanctions against Sudan."

I was going to post that if the US did anything militarily in Sudan, it would be spun by the left in short order anyway. I went to find a link explaining Sudan's oil, and lo and behold found that the left already had spun concern for Darfur as a grab for oil.

6. What do you mean by "left"? Politics is rarely monolithic
There seems to be quite a few divergent reasons why people would want intervention on Darfur.

I think the web site speaks for itself.

9. In my opinion, it speaks to one segment of the left.
The left is as fragmented as it ever was, and I hardly doubt an Australian website could clearly represent "the left" as well as a "segment" of the left.

12. Right, the segment I was speaking of
The far left, which is what I said. There is no doubt in my mind that if Bush launched some sort of military action in Darfur, (which I don't support anyway), we would start hearing claims like the ones in that web site. It isn't as if far left views are limited by country borders. That's my opinion. It is what makes issues like Darfur so complicated, it is tough to wade through manipulations and lies, all the way around, and figure out the truth that can bring an end to violence.

10. I think the President did agree to allow a mixed UN force..African & other
..into the areas where there is still ethnic cleansing. Good news. If it is for real.

13. I don't know....
but I've seen the Save Darfur Coalition ads several times this morning, and I wonder how many people are hearing "Darfur" and "Sudan" for the first time.

14. How exactly do you make the African Union do anything?
In an idea world, the African Union would be handling this themselves. I really don't see any easy answer to this. You really can't force the AU to take control. Libya seems to be warning against intervention as well.

I'd much rather see us involved in Darfur than in Iraq.

15. You know what's funny?
The reality we currently live in today, would not have been possible if not for genocide in this country.

Alright, it's more funny sad, not so much the ha-ha.

So the system created by genocide, will stop genocide? Now you know why nobody knows what the fuck to do.
