ARG poll indicates that Gingrich could actually get GOP nomination
in my opinion. He is my dream candidate that the GOP nominate.

Iowa: Giuliani is leading McCain 28-26 but Gingrich is third at 18% and if conservative activists control the caucus I could see him actually coming out on top which would give him some real momentum.

In Nevada he is duking it out for second with McCain. Rudy leads 31% with McCain at 25% and Gingrich at 22%.

In South Carolina, McCain currently leads Guiliani 35-28 but Gingrich is in there with double digits at 15%

In NH McCain leads Rudy 29-25, but Gingrich has 14%.

Both Iowa and NV will come before NH and if Gingrich makes a good showing in both of those states he could have a real shot in NH.

Interesting.

1. yes he has the moral background for the christian right wing vote
how many divorces?

how many new "relationships" before the current wife of the time was divorced?

how many times did he go into a current wife's hospital room and tell her he was dumping her?

yep, he's got the family values vote locked up.

3. True, but who do you think his supporters are? they are the more
conservative elements of his party. And the morals crowd is good at overlooking flaws in their own. After all, Ronald Reagan was married twice and Nancy was pregnant when they got married.

18. Oh please, Newt is a Republican
Anything bad that happened before today can be written off as a "youthful indiscretion."

Don't forget, the fundies conveniently forgave St. Ronnie his previous divorce and his impregnating Nancy before they were married. And, they forgave Bush for his alcoholism and drug use. It's only important that you "talk the talk" with them, you don't have to "walk the walk."

Not that anyone would mention during the campaign how you served divorce papers on your former wife while she was in the hospital for breast cancer surgery so you could marry your mistress, whom you later divorced because you were having an affair with the woman who is now your third wife.

And nobody is going to mention about the time you had to exit Air Force One by the back door after Rabin's funeral, and you had such a hissy fit that you refused to submit a budget and temporarily shut down the federal government. Or how 84 ethics charges were filed against you during your tenure in the House, including accepting that $4.5 million advance as part of a book deal.

Also, no one will comment about how you claimed tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes, and how you used GOPAC as a slush fund, or how you had to reimburse the House Ethics Committee $300,000.

Nope, none of those things will be mentioned...

16. Newt has been organizing
for the '08 campaign since the week after the '04 election. I think that his actual goal is to be put on a ticket as the VP candidate. I say that because of his close working relationship to Cheney. It is worth remembering that he was an active participant in the White House Iraqi Group (WHIG) meetings; he went to CIA HQ with Scooter Libby to attempt to intimidate analysts on at least two occasions; he co-chaired one of the early "work-up" meetings on dealing with the "Wilson problem"; and he is intimately familiar with the structure of control that VP Cheney has instituted.

The neoconservatives are not simply going to walk away from power. They have found a strong base for operations in the OVP. In many ways, the OVP allows them greater access to power, without having to be held responsible for their errors/crimes, than any other office or department.

Newt is aware that he cannot win the presidency. He is not running to "lose" -- he is running to maintain power. And as a candidate for VP, he might strengthen a republican ticket with a more "liberal" presidencial candidate on the top.

20. That's scary. Newt as VP sounds like the original Manchurian Candidate.
You're right, it's all about the maintenance of power for him. And he knows the key to his power is fear. In most of his post 9/11 rhetoric, he seems even more reactionary than Cheney, if that's possible. His recent rantings have been littered with references to World War III, and when describing his prospects for the future, he said this:

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich yesterday said the country will be forced to reexamine freedom of speech to meet the threat of terrorism.

Gingrich, speaking at a Manchester awards banquet, said a "different set of rules" may be needed to reduce terrorists' ability to use the Internet and free speech to recruit and get out their message.

"We need to get ahead of the curve before we actually lose a city, which I think could happen in the next decade," said Gingrich, a Republican who helped engineer the GOP's takeover of Congress in 1994.

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/11/gingrich-we-must-restrict-free-speech.html

I can't tell what he's looking forward to more: restricting freedom of speech or losing a (blue) city. Truly a sick fascist.
