Kucinich on escalation in Iraq

http://kucinich.us/node/1028

The American people voted for a new direction in Iraq in November. They didn't vote to send more troops, they didn't vote to spend double the amount of money; they voted to bring our troops home.

The money is there right now to bring our troops home. The money is there for a process of reconciliation and reconstruction in Iraq. The money is there to create an international security force for the Iraqi people.

That's the direction that we should take. We should not be thinking about spending more money and sending more troops.

6. I simply do not understand the reasoning
of those who belittle his run for presidency especially on the grounds that he can't win. If everyone who agreed with what he said actually voted for him, he'd win.

Who else when elected is going to stop that insane war?

7. I agree.
I think that he may have far more support from the grass roots than the corporate media or the advocates of other politicians are saying he will.

8. he won in the primary here
in this NC county

I too think he potentially has a chance to really reach the (grass) roots.

Being a truth speaker doesn't always have to be a liability.

13. You're right. There is a constant "He can't win" drumbeat...
...just as there was in 2004, pointing out that he's not good looking (Oh, really? Why not ask Elizabeth about that?), he's short, he has funny personal spiritual ideas (none of which he attempts to put on anyone else), he doesn't have money, he's just flat "unelectable."

He's also just flat inspiring when you hear him speak. You forget that he's not six feet tall. He talks about things like justice and mercy and compassion (He won the Gandhi award in 2004, I think it was) -- and not the way Bush co-opts those concepts for his own despicable ends.

It fries me to hear this sh*t. He has all the right ideas on all the social issues for the country. He has *practical* plans for getting out of Iraq. He's ridiculed for his Department of Peace proposals to work for world peace, and to cut into the raging domestic violence that besets our country.

There are those now who are former supporters who say they won't vote for him because he threw his votes to Kerry (a "warmonger") in the 2004 primary. He's a loyal Dem! What should he have done? Should he have counseled his followers to stay home and not vote because he wasn't the candidate?

Nah! Why would a country as smart as America want to take on a guy like Dennis Kucinich?

11. Dennis Kucinich still speaks for me!
I do hope the rest of our chums spend some quality time listening to his words. He reflects the hopes expressed often in the DU with sound wisdom.

14. Dennis and Dean were my choices last time.
With Feingold out (rats) I'd vote for either in a heartbeat.
