17. I thought you were serious,
but had to ask. Why on earth...? I know why. $

It's a shame that this sort of thing is discussed for its entertainment value.

Thanks.

33. Sometimes *translate* (most) of the time,
I'm glad I don't have and pay for cable. It's times like these, I'm really glad. How sick and bored for news CNN must be, especially since they avoid real news at all costs. Really morbid...

fwiw, hanging, if done properly, is supposed to be pretty painless.

But yes, the media's obsession over Saddam's death is morose at best, perverted at worst...

7. If done correctly
You drop and have a C1 spinal fracture. It pulls the spinal cord out of your brain. It results in immediate shutdown of all sensory and motor impulses to the body. As close to a "Light switch" execution that you can get. I imagine there would be a momentary rope burn sensation from your chin to your ears.

21. They put the big knot under the chin
so that when you drop the weight of your body causes your head to hyperextend. The fracture is actually of C2 and is called the hangman's fracture. The head continues to extend and the foramen magnum slices right through the medulla where the neural controls for breathing are. The lights go out immediately if done correctly. Night night.

12. I almost wish they would describe how it feels to be shot.
Bring it right on home.

Before I get flamed, I have beeen shot and I believe that a little more description of how it feels would go a long way with the video-game generation.

And then there is the matter(s) of getting blown up and burned.

27. Ah yes what more to expect from US News
Now if they show it perhaps it will mean the end of the DP in this country

The last time we had PUBLIC executions support started to go down.

How long until our culture of life has public executions during the dinner hour? Incidentally, as you read above, that is what will take to end the DP

28. It's not so bad, really
depending on whether or not your neck breaks right off the bat. Assuming it does, it is quick and relatively painless. Though it will give you neck problems for decades to come. Unfortunately, if it doesn't break, well you slowly strangle to death and your neck hurts even worse.

30. Some countries just put a rope or chain around your neck and
hoist you up. You'll dance for the crowd a bit, make faces, and soil yourself if you haven't already. Sooner or later you will become unconscious and then your heart will stop beating. It's bit messy, but the end result is the same.

Maybe Cooper is doing a service. Even if done "right" it is barbaric and maybe being reminded of what hanging is about will shake some out of their sleepwalk.

End the Death Penalty.

32. Well, when done the traditional way..
hood over the victim and a proper gallows and a proper hangman to ensure your neck will most likely snap, it is as "humane" as any other form of execution IMO.

36. The "traditional way" is punishment. Done the way I described is
a deterrent. Where I was living there was a building insurgency. After the prisoner was hung, they were beheaded and their heads displayed in the city square.

31. Well, isn't it nice that they at least waited for Xmas to end.
I mean, a pre-New Year's hanging just adds to the festivities.

Even better ... instead of a big ball in Time's Square, they could have the New Year's Eve count-down be indicated on a big (digital) clock over Saddam, pre-decked in noose. Right at the stroke of midnight in DC ...

:sarcasm:

35. How sick and disgusting is this!
As if ANYONE this side of life could really know for sure...

All they are doing is bloviating again - they have only their guesses and hunches...

All of which are worthless...

I for one want to try it out on one of these "experts" so we can test their theory - give them a video cam and mike so they can do a real "live" play by play...

Oh, my neck is starting to stretch - I'm finding it difficult to breath now - opps - there goes the spine - but I'm still talking! Amazing! th.....
