IMPEACHMENT FLASHMOB (1,200 people plus helicopter) Jan. 6, San Francisco, Ocean Beach
IMPEACHMENT FLASHMOB (1,200 people plus helicopter)
Sat, Jan 6, Ocean Beach, San Francisco, 10:30 a.m.

On Saturday, January 6, 2007 (just two days after the new US Congress convenes), 1,200 people will gather for a (Park Service-permitted) impeachment event in Nancy Pelosi’s back yard -- on Ocean Beach in San Francisco.

Early that morning, in 100-foot letters stretching 450 feet across the sand, volunteers from the Beach Impeach Project will outline the message:

                           I M P E A C H !

At 10:30 a.m., the 1,200 attendees will arrive and lay their bodies down inside the message’s lettering. At 11 o’clock a helicopter will arrive overhead and photographers will record the 1,200 bodies in the sand -- “IMPEACH!” -- with the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

News editors will have compelling photos for the next morning’s Sunday papers; the nation and world will have convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi’s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster; and the impeachment movement will have powerful visuals to go with the words and chatter swirling in the air for months and months now.

To participate, please take 60 seconds to register yourself and your friends. If 1,200 people register in advance, this will be not just a frolic at the beach, but a NEWS story (the media are already interested). Also, I can communicate via just one email with all who are registered, instead of 1,200 emails. Please take 60 seconds to register:

-- go to http://www.volunteerforchange.org
-- hit "View the event calendar"
-- go down to "Saturday 1/6/07 -- Beach Impeach Project" (we're that day's only event)
-- follow the signup directions (takes about 60 seconds)
For more information:

2. I Mean This Respectfully:
Let's be honest here. Really really honest. 1200 people laying down in the sand does not equate to "convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi’s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster". It just doesn't. C'mon.

Definitely sounds like it'll be a good picture though. I look forward to seeing it (though I don't agree with its putting the impeachment cart before the investigatory horse premise).

But you didnt acknowledge the more substantive part of my post: Do you really consider that 1200 people laying in the sand for a photo op to be convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi’s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster? Do you Honestly,Sincerely and Genuinely Believe that premise you put forth? I'd wager that you'd have to have at the least 5 additional zeros towards the right of that number, in order for that sentiment to evin begin to be a possibility. But 1200? Nah.. Not a message that will impact Nancy, and most definitely an impact that will go largely unheard of around the world. C'mon, let's inject some reality here. This is just a feel good protest of those who believe strongly in a cause, that will get a nice picture of their get together out of it. But it falls far, far far short of the movement or caption you're looking for to truly send a message to the world. Cause trust me, the world isn't getting this one. Sorry.

29. Tell Me, How Is That A Good Answer, And How Is This Sending A Message To The Planet, When No One Out
of the SF area will even know about it?

Seriously. Let's have some rational thinking here. More power to the protest and all, but can we not agree that 1200 naked people spelling out the word 'impeach' is not going to do much more than make a nice picture that will only rally a statistically very small number of people, and not be some huge impact across the nation and globe, as the OP declared?

My first thought was, I wish I still lived in SF so I could participate. Are you jealous there won't be an impeachment pow-wow at your nearest beach? Is that why you're so cynical?

that they already found 1200 people willing to lie in the sand.
Can you imagine how many people would attend, if you could just stand up? They could definitely get more than enough locals to stand up and spell out the IMPEACH message! (That's not a bad idea...)

6. Perhaps you are totally ignorant on the subject, but the impeachment
process includes investigatory hearings as a first step. Witnesses, evidence, that sort of stuff.

On the subject, great work by those who are organizing this event!

12. And Only After Those Thorough And Legitimate Investigations Are Over Can It Even Then Be Discussed
if impeachment is appropriate or forthcoming: Hence the putting the impeachment cart before the investigatory horse. Right now we need investigations to dig up whatever can be dug up. If there is enough criminal acts therein to warrant impeachment, then I'm sure the articles of Impeachment will be written. But before ANY of those investigations have taken place, to already be crying out in such a dramatic manner of 'impeach now impeach now impeach now ugh' is just quite simply futile and misguided.

So perhaps you were mistaken in your assessment, as I understand the process just fine.

Investigations first, followed by supportive evidence, followed by articles of impeachment, followed possibly by the act of impeachment. Some just want to recklessly hit fast forward and just get to the latter part. Just simply doesn't work that way. Investigations first.

And regardless, 1200 people laying in the sand crying for impeachment is far, far far from convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi’s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster.

75. If only we could believe that WOULD be your "last comment"
:applause: Well done! We hope you mean it! Please!!!

"You all need to seriously grow up and get a new hobby."

Start by taking your own advice. When the first reply to you says "Fine" if you think that and you have no further interest in the subject, why stick around?

This also applies to you:

"Your behavior in this thread is sickening and does a huge disservice to DU."

The comeuppance you received was not "attacking" or "sickening" -- although you might consider it "immature" because it was quite good-natured, humorous, relaxed....... and well-deserved by you. In fact it was "defending" all the Grand Principles that you claim to be so passionately Marching Forth about all the time.

The sad part is that the mask is off and the witnesses abound-- although the record is gone, the truth is not. You can't pretend otherwise. Yet you have learned nothing and came back to give a Big Middle Finger to the DU community you claim so Proudly and Obnoxiously to Defend. And that is:

"Pathetic. Just purely pathetic."

Happy New Year.

51. But the MSM will never show it! They never have given more than fleeting coverage,
if that to any protests! Look at the millions and millions participating in world wide marches all over the planet just prior to the war. So many impressive protests and marches in the last three years, and the MSM has ignored them, or given just a few seconds of coverage. I don't know why this will be any different.

Nice visual idea, though.

Hey there, porphyrian. There's a link up top to interview with author of "The Genius of Impeachment." Have you heard him speak? Great presentation. Also heard about Elizabeth Holztman's (recent) comments on Gerald Ford but haven't been able to find it....

Happy New Year. You are on the right side of history. :hi:
