5. Reuters: Lawyer says Saddam handed over to Iraqis
Lawyer says Saddam handed over to Iraqis
Fri Dec 29, 2006 3:16am ET

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein has been handed over by U.S forces to Iraqi
government custody, his lawyers said on Friday, in an apparent step toward
his execution.

"I understand they have handed him over," said one defense lawyer who declined
to give his name.

Another lawyer said that U.S. officials had asked him to pick up the personal
effects of the former Iraqi president who has been sentenced to death.

"The American side called me and asked me to pick up the personal effects of the
president and Barzan al-Tikriti," said Khalil al-Dulaimi, referring to Saddam's half
brother, who has also been sentenced to death.

20. Yes, I bet Ramsey Clark
knows a lot. I hope he is able to get what he knows out to the world. I'm sure there is plenty of incriminating information against Bush and co.

7. I know the man was a hideous murderer
...with no compassion or mercy...but part of me feels sorry for him. I hate the death penalty, particularly its more cruel forms like hanging. And I don't believe in an eye for an eye. It's all so barbaric. A savage response to savagery.

Still, it is Iraqi law -- a law Saddam himself passed. So there is a bit of poetic justice in it if nothing else.

21. the point is that it has never detoured 'others' from committing a crime,
the crime rate does not go down with a death penalty.. it actually goes up, they kill the wittinesses to avoid the death penalty..

Officials: Saddam still in U.S. custody

By LAUREN FRAYER, Associated Press Writer
7 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein's half brothers visited him in his jail cell
and he gave them his will, Iraqi officials said Friday, indicating his
execution may be approaching. But they said he had yet to be transferred
to Iraqi custody.

The former president is being held at Camp Cropper, an American military prison
where he is expected to remain until the day of his execution, at which point
he is to be transferred to Iraqi authorities.

Ibrahim said Friday that the transfer had yet to occur.

"Press reports that he has been handed over are not correct," he said late Friday
morning local time.

14. You think they will actually kill him on a Friday?
The holy day for group prayers? With that and Eid coming up, I'm wondering who is really deciding when the execution takes place.

19. Note to all would-be U.S.-supported dictators:
NEVER bite the hand that feeds you: You'll end up dead. (Unless of course you're the dictator who runs the U.S.)
