What if we started talking about the "radical conservative media" |
|
as a regular term of reference for them? Label them for their bias at every opportunity. The way they responded to the labelling as "elite liberal media" was to start to present programming that presented radical conservative viewpoints. Maybe they need a little help being nudged out of the propaganda mode.

3. Only online and progressive radio shows. |
|
The MSM still refers to "liberal media". We never hear about the "radical conservative press" or the "conservative media". Because most news converage is 99% conservative, the other 1% is too much for some conservatives. If it isn't all conservative, it's "the liberal media". They want it all.

4. Exactly. Those spokespersons appearing on programs need |
|
to label the media appropriately. This needs to be something used beyond DU and a few other chat boards.

5. Oh, the nuanced meaning of we thingy. I meant we as "we," you meant "we" as in "them" |
|
I admit to having trouble with the complex meanings of 2 letter words. My bad, I never understood the multiple meanings of "is" either.

I don't think the MSM refers to "liberal media" because they deny that they are liberal. That term is really only used by the r-wing shows like Rush and Hannity. The MSM see themselves as being somehow removed from the normal prejudice and bias that all humans have, and they strive mightily to appear perfectly neutral. So I don't think you'll see any MSM outlet referring to itself as either liberal or conservative because it would destroy their own self-imposed sense of neutrality.
Personally, I would prefer that news outlets be honest about their skew. Fox can proudly say we lean conservative, and NY Times can say we lean liberal. Why all this pretense about not having an agenda? There's nothing wrong with having an agenda as long as you make it clear to your audience.

10. The NY Times is not "liberal" |
|
Have you read any of the opinion pieces in the NY Times? Decidedly NOT liberal. By the way, I never stated that the MSM refers to itself as liberal. They do, however, refer to "the liberal media". And they are anything BUT neutral, unless you've been brainwashed into thinking so.

Yes I have read the Opinion pieces, and I would say that the NYT definitely leans to the liberal side of things. The editorial board is in favor of gay marriage, gun control, higher minimum wage, increased taxes on the wealthy, etc. What conservative positions has the paper endorsed? Also, the last election, the NYT endorsed not a single Repub candidate. Not one. You can read it for yourself. So if the paper endorses every single Democratic candidate, I have a tough time concluding that the NYT is a conservative paper. It just doesnt' make sense.
I think the paper got a little distracted from its mission after 9/11 and was a little too quick to credit its sources inside the white house. But I stand firm in my belief that the NYT -- as a general proposition -- is a left-leaning news outlet.
Case closed.

14. You had me until you said "case closed" |
|
I think that was a bit arrogant. And I still stand by my statement that the NY Times has MANY opinion pieces of the conservative bent--they are often read on the air during The Washington Journal on C-Span. (Of course, some people think that if a paper includes both sides of an issue, it's part of the "liberal media")

I was just kidding about the Case Closed comment. I'm an attorney and was just being a little flip.

7. I'd drop "conservative"; that is actually a positive term. How about |

"radical Right-wing media"?

I always refer to the MSM as being biased toward the right. When you actually explain the facts to people, they generally will agree with you (except for dittoheads, hannity suckups etc.).

I've been using the term "radical right" for quite some time. I like the idea of using it to describe the media. I should have thought of that in my LTTE's. The Professor

18. "Radical Right Media" has a better ring to it... |
|
... including Radical Right Rags like the Sun Myung Moon Times, the New York Murdoch Post, the National Buckley Review ... you get the idea. Name names.
And let's not forget "Radical Right Radio" (or "Radical Right Hate Radio"0.
Plus, i no longer call it "FOX News Channel." In honor of its propaganda chief, I call it "Ailes Jazeera" -- and for those who don't know who Roger Ailes is (RNC playa, producer of Rush's failed TV show), I explain.

20. radical right wing media. you got it skidmore |
|
this will be how i address the media in the panhandle of texas. will be interesting to see reactions. way back when in 2004 when i would talk the bias to the left on media, people were flabbergasted. are you saying the media isn't left leaning, they would ask. i told them, since impeachment, 2000 election and especially with kerry in 2004, tell me one positive thing they have said about dems in general and kerry specifically. just one positive report. they could not. left them thinking on that one.
