28. As You Can See From Some Of The Confusion Even In This Thread, Googling EID May Not Have Been
productive here, as there could be multiple results etc...

Sometimes it is definitely more efficient to just take the lazy way out and simply ask directly, ya know? :)

This Eid uladha (sp) is the celebration following hajj ... my former inlaws always referred to it as bukkr (sp) Eid ... I can't remember what it specifically commemorates.

30. Eid means "holiday"; there are several
عيد, for those of you with Unicode-aware browsers, is roughly equivalent to "-fest" or "-mas" in English, and just like we have Michelmas and Whitsunmas and Christmas and Octoberfest, there are several عيد as well (I would put that in plural but I can't get the little circle with two dots to work). Sunday is the Eid that's for Abraham.

When the Iraqi's are used to being off the streets for curfew ... it might stem the violence for a while.

29. I can't really figure much of that out at this point
They seem to be skipping around a lot on the video feed. The most distressing thing that I saw was an obviously Western produced propaganda film for the Iraqi Police force featuring small children. Since I don't speak nor understand the language, I can only guess what it was trying to convey, but it seemed to be in the same vain as the "Smokey The Bear" type commercials.

35. Is it just me or does that entire network stink of that?
Since this is my first time watching this particular network, I may be entirely off base, but everything about the production values and message just seem to have a contrived and carefully scripted message. The reason why it hits me that quickly is that the entire delivery seems forced and the messages are westernized public service announcements. They don't even look anything like Al Jazeera news or any other network from that region.

I thought the Iraqi people were getting their country back, but it appears that they can't even have their own news network that isn't censored and approved by someone or something here in the U.S.

They had bags on their heads and ropes around their necks. They did not show them swinging. They were however all standing in a line.

42. I just heard one of the lawyers
on CNN saying this is total confusion. They received an email that he was handed over to the Iraqis then an appeal went to a DC district court that if the US does not take him back, this would be an impeachable offense for Bush. Expect a total mess re Saddam's lynching.

43. Interesting
I would really like to hear the reasoning with regards to the "impeachable offense". It was my understanding that he was the property of the Iraqi Government (whatever that is) and they would have to abide by their rules, effectively limiting any kind of legal appeal in the U.S. or International Courts.

But with the way this whole thing has been going, nothing would surprise me at this point.
