Isn't Saddam a prisoner of war? |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 05:31 PM by NNN0LHI
Will other nations now be legally justified in taking our captured soldiers from the battlefield, give them a kangaroo court, and then hang them too? Christ, the Vietnamese didn't even do that to our captured soldiers after what we did to them. Whatever happened to the Geneva Conventions?

4. Probably, if you were a rational citizen of the world, but... |
|
don'r forget that BushCo 'exempted' all US citizens from ANY US laws while in Iraq. Not just the military, they have the UCMJ, but ANY US operative or corporate drone... These people do NOT believe LAW applies to them at all...

The Geneva Conventions is the reason he is alive today. I bet the people who he was dropping bombs on the day he was shot down would have liked to exact some serious and deadly revenge on him if the North Vietnamese government had allowed them to do so.

10. They could, but probably wouldn't . . . |

out of concern for its impact on the welfare and lives of their soldiers who may be held prisoner.
Because a street thug kills my Mother, doesn't impel me to take law in my own hands and mete swift justice to anyone associated with his gang. If anything, my belief in the rule of law would see me place more emphasis there, rather than less, if for no reason other than to prove the value of my beliefs.

to criminals. Being a prisoner of war does not protect you from being tried and punished for murder, rape, etc.
And Saddam was all of that, and more. It doesn't justify the war, of course, but the execution of this man is a step forward for all of us.

Simply that this man does not deserve to live among his fellow human beings.
Tell me, what is your suggestion for GWB, assuming that he can ever be brought to justice?

It's totally blood lust. Even if I was for capital punishment, I would have reservations about this sham of a trial and rush to execution.
Mass fucking psychosis, if you ask me. I thought we were more civilized, but I was wrong.

you can't be convinced, you can't be covinced. People escape from prison. And it is an awful expense to keep a man alive for life. Still I'm not trying to make a case for the death penalty. I just have no compassion for this evil, evil man, and don't see his trial and execution, an Iraqi operation, as having any negative effect on our society.

He's probably an enemy combatant. Which means, anything goes!
But I believe they can't use semantics to circumvent the Geneva Convention.

They evidently believe the world will just let them do whatever they want to, despite well established international laws.
Yes Saddam is a POW, BUT he knows a lot of dirty laundry, as far as the BFEE goes, so must be killed. They don't want him testifying against the BFEE.

18. This whole spectacle is making me sick to my stomach. |
|
We had no right invading and occupying Iraq and removing Saddam. This sets a dangerous precedent that lays the groundwork for any country to do these things.
Saddam should have been handed over to the Hague for a fair trial. This kangaroo court BS and execution is, in IMO, one of the more moronic things this Administration has done. Talk about pouring gasoline on a raging fire....this is not going to end well. Damn it all, I cannot believe this is happening. I cannot believe the depths this country has fallen to with this lunatic fratboy at the helm.
