"Earthlink is losing alot of emails"
I don't know if other DUers have experienced this problem with Earthlink, or other email providers, but for while now many of incoming/outgoing emails have been dropped and/or never reached my mailbox, and so far the issue hasnt been resolved.

There also has been no indication that anything is or was, wrong with my email account. The same standard messages would appear when I would send or receive emails. Then I noticed the number of emails I was receiving was becoming fewer, and at one point I wasn't receiving any for periods at a time and I knew there was a problem somewhere. Apparently my emails were not being delivered, but the message said they had been sent. Also, individuals who had sent me emails received messages back that the email they sent me was not received and/or they received an error message.

When I have called Earthlink and spoken to a representative, they have consistently "transferred" me to another technician, and with the exception of today, I have wound up staying on the line for over an hour and my calls were never picked up.

I guess there are others experiencing the problem as well....

"Robert X. Cringely, doyen compu-columnist for PBS, reports on a hidden e-mail problem at Earthlink: They're losing up to 9 messages out of 10, found as a result of a friend's testing."

From the article:

Here is something I wish I were making up. A good friend of mine noticed last June a sudden and precipitous decline in his volume of incoming e-mail with the numbers dropping by 80-90 percent. Was he less popular, less interesting than before? Or maybe some Bayesian filter had been imposed by his ISP (Earthlink) to suddenly spare him completely from spam. No such luck.

The trend continued so my friend, who has long been in the networking business, himself, started running experiments.

He sent messages from other accounts to his Earthlink address, to his aliased Blackberry address, and to his Gmail account. For every 10 messages sent, 1-2 arrived in his Earthlink mailbox, 1-2 (not necessarily the SAME 1-2) on his Blackberry, and all 10 arrived with Gmail. Swimming upstream through Earthlink customer support, my buddy finally found a technical contact who freely acknowledged the problem. Since June, he was told, Earthlink's mail system has been so overloaded that some users have been missing up to 90 percent of their incoming e-mail. It isn't bounced back to senders; it just disappears. And Earthlink hasn't mentioned the problem to these affected customers unless they complain."

I have Comcast. I pay money to one of the great evils of American Economic Empire for fast, trouble free raging speed. I started out on 19baud in the 80's... this is absolute bliss!
(plus my roomie and my 3 boys are all gamers/videophyles). It's our total entertainment budgets for the month lumped together. :)

As for e-mail, I use a free yahoo account. Spam is filtered out pretty well, and reports of "didn't you get my e-mail?" are at 0.

5. Well;
I must be getting them all then!!

Have you reset your e-mail settings? They changed a while back.

Have you checked your spam folder and spam settings?

I've used their services for over three years and I've never had

any problems with not recieving e-mail.

If anything, I get to much. But that's my fault.

Why you should use secure SMTP to send email

EarthLink's outgoing mail servers are now using authenticated SMTP (ASMTP) to help fight spam.
As a result, you must update your email settings to continue sending mail from our servers.
ASMTP requires you to enter your email password before sending email. This simple step blocks
unauthorized outgoing messages and helps reduce the distribution of spam.

For more info, click on Support from your Earthlink Home page

and then - Email: Troubleshooting Problems

Also:

Changing Your Email Settings

This article will help you solve many email send/receive problems
by detailing how to reset the email account or email client settings.

One solution which can solve most send/receive problems is to reset
your email settings or email account. If you have recently changed
any of your email information, or if you just want to make sure your
email program is set up correctly to send and receive email, this
support page can help. For detailed instructions, select your OS
and email program from the list below.

6. Get a real provider.
Not a con-artist.

"EarthLink co-founder Reed Slatkin, accused of defrauding investors out of nearly $600 million, has agreed to plead guilty to 15 federal charges, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Slatkin, who was charged with 15 felony charges for allegedly orchestrating a massive Ponzi scheme in which he solicited more than $593 million from some 800 investors--including members of the Church of Scientology, where he is a minister--has reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to all of the charges, a U.S. Attorney's representative said."

and socialites, pleaded guilty to five counts of mail fraud, three
