Sam's Club? Fuck you, Walmart!
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 07:58 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad

Hit my weather website and had a link to this generated coupon. Print it out, use it and DO Not buy anything!

Gee, how nice.

No thanks, I'll use my Costco card and support a company that pays a living wage.

1. I don't get it?
You want us to use it, but not use it? How do we do that and why?

From my experience, Costco has better stuff anyway.

Let them know that they are not the darling that they think.

Tell a manager your opinion while you are there.

higher price than is labeled because you are not a member. There's no point in using it at all.

7. That's weird
Wouldn't they have it backwards since it's a special? My family and I used to go there and stack up on food and stuff. We used to get good stuff but they had high prices. But I guess that's shopping in our country now days.

3. Sigh...if only I could get a Coscto somewhere within 100 miles of me
I would be happy...

BUT, I am proud that I have not shopped a Walmart or Sam's club since 1987.

Did I mention my great grandmother was a Walton...DIRECT relation to Sam (as well as indirect relation to Bill Walton, for those of you sporties out there)

Sam Walton's kids sure screwed up his shop.

10. Stop liking Sam's Club. It is evil.
There is NO REASON to go to Sam's Club if you are within 100 miles of a Costco. Even BJ's is much better substitute. But stay away from Sam's at all costs.

I will only support good companies given a choice.

Most people won't:

1. call a congressman
2. email a congressman
3. go to a protest
4. work for their party
5. Even shop with thier values.

But they are internet warriors.

18. I shop where I shop and will continue to do so. Whoever has the
best prices wins. I shop at walmart all the time and won't be made to feel guilty about it. I don't condone their policies and some of the shit they've pulled but it doesn't mean I'm gonna refuse to shop there either, sorry.

If I stopped shopping at every red company or every company that has any sort of policy we don't agree with there wouldn't be much places left to go, and I'm not gonna live my life that way inconveniencing myself to send a message that no one is listening to.

24. You DON'T save a couple of grand.
Add it up. Unless you shop for a business or have seventeen kids, the money you save at Wal Mart does not come to a couple of grand in a year. And even if it did, it is more than made up for in higher taxes you pay to cover the cost of health care and food stamps and assistance checks for Wal Mart workers. AND, your support of their business model undercuts the job market, putting more people out to compete for YOUR job as well. You cut your own throat to save 12¢ on a crate of Twinkies and to get a cheap-ass disposal DVD player for $29.

Leave you alone? Jesus, you're on fire tonight, aren't you?

30. I'll Just Be Damned If I Condone Someone Forcefully Telling Me Where I
Can and can't shop.

I'll tell you what. You work and pay taxes. Your taxes fund the biggest criminal organization going right now. So if you want me to take you seriously, than I ask that you either quit your job and stop funding them, or ask for a demotion and cut in pay until you are taking home only what you absolutely need in able to afford the bare necessities.

If you say you won't or it's absurd, then you have no leg to stand on telling me that I can't fund (with money that wouldn't make a pebble dent to them) another company that isn't a zillionth as bad as the one you fund by working.

I don't like some of walmarts policies. I also don't like relying on oil, but I'm not gonna give up my car. I don't like funding the government but I'm not giving up working. I don't like cablevision but I'm not giving up my cable.

31. Who is forcefully telling you where to shop?
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 09:21 PM by Atman
This is just a fucking message board, for Christ's sake. Is this Wal Mart issue NEW to you? If not, what did you expect when you proudly posted your support for them here? If so, how did you get so many posts on DU without knowing about Wal Mart?

Your comparisons to cable and the government are not accurate. Cablevision is not impacting the world economy, and especially America's, the way Wal Mart does. No comparison. You're reaching.

But hey, rationalize all you want. Blame me. Say I'm forcing you to do something if that will make you feel better about your choices.

Perhaps all I'm actually forcing you to do is think about that which you care not think about. In which case, no wonder you sound so angry.

Peace. It's only a message board. We're sharing ideas, not forcing anyone to do a goddamn thing.

32. No Shit. So If Someone Disagrees with you don't be so quick to spew the
hatred and guiltrips. It's just a message board you know! LOL

No, the walmart issue is not new. Yes, I agree with the majority on their abhorable behavior. No, that doesn't mean I'm gonna boycott them, so please, get over it.

There are many many businesses out there that do not act appropriately. You could probably find some horrible practices in the majority of businesses that are most frequently visited. But I would think life would become miserable if I chose to look for every company that didn't deserve my dollar and refused to spend with them. I choose instead to not live my life that way. If I thought for a second my boycott of walmart would impact ANYTHING, I would consider it. But since it won't, not any time in any foreseeable future, I'm not going to refuse to shop there. Doesn't make me proud of it, just means I'll be damned if I deserve to be made to feel guilty about it.

And my comparison to the government is dead on accurate. You are funding something far worse than me shopping at walmart. But I'm not gonna say you condone killing innocent iraqis because you refuse to quit your job.

I'm not proud to shop at walmart, I just simply shop there. It is a store. It has stuff. It has a bunch of people working there that need their paycheck to come from somewhere. They have stuff I need. That stuff is cheaper than somewhere else. I buy their stuff, sorry that upsets you so much, but if you don't want to shop there more power to ya.

bye now :hi:

35. "but I'm...not going to boycott everything that isn't 100% democratic"
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 09:53 PM by Atman
That's good, because that was the point. YOU re-read my posts, because I brought that point up early on. You CAN'T boycott every red company. And many red companies don't necessarily deserve to be boycotted. Sometimes they CAN'T be. But it doesn't seem to be the case with you, and that is the problem. Wal Mart is not just any red company. They are the poster child for so many of the things wrong in our country right now. You just don't want to avoid Wal Mart, because it would inconvenience you.

So, stop heaping layers of hyperbole on what I say. Again, I NEVER said anyone should boycott everything that isn't 100% democratic, and I never forcefully made anyone do anything. Those are YOUR characterizations, and they're false. You made them because you thought they bolstered your argument, but you were being dishonest, because I never said the things you're attributing to me. I'll defend what I did say, until the cows come home. I won't get sucked into these Hannity-esque word twisting games.

Bye. I think were clear on where each other stands.

Cars that bear *04 stickers. Never fails to tickle me when I see that. There has been a steady decline in the number of such stickers (and the hideous black square * stickers), yet the ones who still keep them on their cars seem to beat a path to Costco.

Good deal! Costco can put the wingnuts' dollars to good use, I'm sure! :toast: :patriot:

12. It's deceptive advertising. The whole "be our guest or bring a guest"
makes it sound like they will waive membership requirements just for the day to show you the benefits of being a "member." But when you actually read the fine print, it says they will add a 10% "service fee" to all purchases - unless you pay a membership fee.

So it's no fucking coupon at all. It's a fucking trap for people who may not read the fine print. I imagine that many of the people this coupon is targeted for are elderly.
