First there were the deaths of James Brown and Gerald Ford. Now there is Saddam's execution. This had to be planned ahead of time to take away from the first 100 hours of the new Democratic Congress with the first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

5. Only problem with your logic

1.- You assumed they would have to kill two people in the US, and you know what? People die, and 92 year olds are not spring chickens... especially spring chickens who had been fighting pneumonia for a while

2.- The Congress is sworn on the 4th, it is the 28th, Iraq may blow (will blow up) in our faces... but that is the last possible reminder that they need.

3.- It is the 28th, the swearing in is a week from now... tell me what is the short term memory of the US Press?

6. Well, I really doubt Bush had James Brown wasted--sounds a bit extreme

They could have slipped a little Kervorkian cocktail into old Gerry's life support, I guess, but it does seem that Ford has slapped back at Bush from beyond the grave.

As for Saddam Hussein I'm pretty sure that Bush and his merry gang of war criminals wanted the execution now. I'm afraid that they're planning something beyond the escalation (er I mean the "Surge") of the Iraq war and want to do it before the Democrats take control.

Could an attack on Iran be in the offing?

Ford, all that comes from his death is more bad news for bu$h and Dicky.

I will buy that Saddams execution was expedited to steal the news cycle as Democrats take control .
It could all be out of the news by 1/03 if they do it too soon. It also could backfire by embolding (sp) in Iraq. More violence in an already unpopular situation.
