I just saw Betty Ford on television standing
near the casket of her husband, and I'm just so heart-broken. :(

I just feel so sad for her, as I do whenever I see the faces of anyone whose lost their partner and are now alone in the world.

Sigh.

3. I'm glad she saved your mom's life. :)
I wonder how many lives she has saved?

She just looks like a wonderful, caring human being.

4. Betty is a class act....
She and my father went to school and graduated together from high school in Grand Rapids (MI). Her parents and my grandparents were apparently in the same social circle, so my dad got to know her fairly well although my dad insisted he never had any romantic designs on her.

He remembered her being very smart, determined and stubborn. I also remember he said she had a certain glimmer that dimmed after her dad killed himself when they were in high school.

He lost track of her after high school until she married Gerald Ford. She came back to Grand Rapids at one point as First Lady and he got to meet with her, along with other fellow grads from the same class.

My dad was dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, but he always liked Gerald Ford despite his Republican allegience, and figured "with a wife like Betty Bloomer, the guy can't be half bad."

7. They had a very happy marriage.
I feel sad for her and the family right now.

I'm heartbroken, also. I don't want to think of my partner, my best friend, the man who is the love of my life leaving me in death...that would be an emptiness in my heart that would always be there.

8. Love Betty Ford.
I'm sad for her, too. I think she was one of our nations best first ladies, and undoubtedly saved thousands of lives. Bless her!!!!
