Its not about Saddam.
Its about the reflection that the American sponsored execution of Saddam puts on the United States and what we see when we look in the mirror at ourselves.

Its about the moral decline and decay that escalated when Bush walked into the White House and said "I'm home."

Its about the giant network of corruption that was stealthily built by DeLay and others which is still operating today and the fact that if it isn't stopped, eventually you're going to have to be a member of the republican party to have a job with a meaningful salary. The tentacles of this monster have dug deep into state governments and is silently working their way lower.

Its about the fact that we torture. If you want a definition of evil, torture fits.

Its not really about Saddam, Iraq, or anyone else. Just us and what we've become.

1. Ironic:
de-Baathification of Iraq
but at the same time the Republican Party becomes the de facto Baath Party of America.

6. For more insight on what we've become, go see Babel
I cried my eyes out after watching that flick last night. How we treat other cultures is sick.

Just like Bush, we are acting like him these days.

12. That is why I am so sad today
It's not about Saddam. It is about watching the unmasking of civility and human decency. Of all the myriad evils I have seen in my life, Bush and Blair represent the worst of them. At least the other despots didn't pretend it was about democracy, freedom or any of that bullshit. This is imperialism gone mad on flat screen TVs.

14. Yes Saddam never pretended to be anything other than a ruthless
dictator. He was better than Bush.

And yes I am very sad for America as well.
We have become monsters, our country is a barbaric one.

13. I posted a similar type of thread over here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x3004565

making the point that it is about greed and decadence and our willingness as a nation to wink at corruption and abuse so long as it serves our wants.

We are responsible for Saddam and many like him. It is foolish to delude ourselves into believing that we would have devoted so much blood and money to setting him up and taking him out if Iraq's major export was handcrafts. At the most fundamental level, it is about greed.

15. We murdered him for this oil. He had something Bush wanted.
And Bush murdered him to get it.

Any other explanation is just BS propaganda.

16. We have just lived a horror.
Bush lied.
Bush tortured.
Bush killed.
Bush stole.
Bush will continue the war.
Bush likely will expand it.

Yet we all stand naked before the world in the shadow of Bush.

This is a living horror.

I wonder if that was part of the plan? Rumors that the body has gone missing are circulating.
