I refuse to watch CNN et al....could somebody who has
tell me if any stations are reviewing the United States' culpability in arming Saddam Hussein and backing him in the Iran/Iraq war? or is there a complete blackout of our complicity. Is there no media outlet brave enough to do a full report of history for ignorant Americans who know nothing of our countries evil deeds?

2. I've been waiting for the photos/video of Rummy shaking Saddam's hand all night
Still haven't seen it...or anything else explaining how Saddam got to be the biggest baddest dictator in the middle east with our help.

It's CNN. You don't expect them to jar people with facts, do you?

10. I saw it last night ...
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 07:37 AM by Drifter
I think it was on one of the networks, but it could have been CNN or one of those.

Not just the picture, but video. It was part of a thing showing how Saddam came to power.
I was quite surprised to see it.

Cheers
Drifter

12. I'm astounded!
Was watching CNN for quite a while, didn't catch it on there. Let's hope whichever network it was, they rerun it. A lot.

6. Good link
and thanks for posting it. Yes - we do at least get the truth here on our news channels and of course no adverts on BBC.

Odd that his executioners were hooded - makes them look like terrorists. I'm sure the locals know who they are anyway and the three of them will be dead in days.

7. That's exactly what Tom Porteous from
Human RIghts Watch said. Saddam looked dignified while the executioners looked like terrorists. He said this will be a public relations disaster.

Maybe on Satellite TV, but not the networks or cablewhores.
Best bet is [link:www.democracynow.org|Democracy Now].
Freespeech TV, Dish Network Channel 9415 or LinkTV, channel
9410 or 375 on DirecTV.

Or is this just a rhetorical question?...

5. no, this is not just a rhetorical question...
I just continue to hope (silly me) that journalists will put events in context. But, I guess our blood lust trumps the truth every time.

9. television has gone totalitarian
it's a wall of in your face distortion and lies.

This is the current message: Saddam's execution is an important milestone because now the Iraqi people have closure and can get on with the business of building an independent democracy.

Will the visits by the US supported government death squads in the middle of the night be stopped now? Will the hundreds of decapitated and tortured Iraqi corpses found every week be stopped? To pretend Saddam's summary execution has something to do with sovereignty or democracy is laughable.

Colonialism begets totalitarianism. This is the fundamental lesson of the twentieth century that no one in the US government or mainstream media will address.

11. MSNBC
did state that we were convenient allies in the Iraq/Iran war. They didn't expound on that much though.

13. We just can't expect anything from big corporation tv. We have.
the friends of our leaders and fellow weapon makers bringing us the right wing messages of their propaganda. It's best to lower your expectations to below zero.

We have five hours a week of truth seeking coming from Democracy Now and it takes time for independents to make the documentaries that run on link and fstv. It's worth the wait.

The great self-proclaimed 'free' country that exports 'democracy' puts out crap lies for political purposes and pay-offs and calls it news. So-called and brought to you with perfect hair-dos', inane jokes, and the most wonderful all's right with the world lilts to the voice.

There is no freedom in this country coming out of corporation tv -partners to the right wing.

Lower expectations - it's worse than the USSR here.
