Breaking on BBC
Saddam's body will not be handed over to his family. He will be buried in a secret location according to Maliki. This is very, very unusual. Maliki write that will.

4. 100% sure
They quoted Maliki's spokesman from AP. Maliki said they didn't want a shrine.

12. I thought the body belongs to the family under Islamic law
What are they thinking?!? Do they think a "shrine" will create more anger than doing this?

Bizarre.

17. Maliki knows his days are numbered.
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 08:43 AM by malaise
He's following orders from Bush. The fact that they lynched him on the Eid holiday is the same as a lynching of Bush on Christmas day. They have already violated Muslim law.

22. ????? what Iraqi leader in his right mind
a poster from another board brought this up!!!!

Ponder this question.

a.) Hussein kept order in Iraq with a merciless hand, and we've killed him for it.

b.) But we want order kept in Iraq, and more and more Americans now believe that the only way order CAN be kept in Iraq is with a merciless hand.

c.) So now that we've killed Hussein for keeping order in Iraq the way we now agree that order needs to be kept in Iraq,

????? what Iraqi leader in his right mind will agree to keep order in Iraq in that manner, knowing that he will be sent to the gallows for it? ??????????

Follow your own logic, folks -- no matter which way you slice it, we've just made the effective pacification of Iraq a capital war crime.

23. After Maliki refused to meet with Bush in
Jordon do you think he could have refused to follow these orders?

Still You raise a valid point re pacification since Bushco want chaos and do not care how many millions die as long as they and their oil friends capture that oil.

26. If I remember correctly
the body was to be buried in some Undisclosed Location, and was to be exhumed and given over to the family for reburial after the initial furore died down. I've heard in a few places that that's acceptable - marginally - under Islamic law for such things, but I'm hardly a theologian.

If they really wanted to avoid the whole shrine thing, they'd do what Israel did to Eichmann and scatter the man's ashes at sea or in the Tigris or something. Then again, they at least gave Eichmann a transparent trial and six months of appeals, so I guess the similarities break down in more places than simply the one of where the bodies end up.

20. We gotta wait for the required 3 days first.
Then he's gotta show up in public, restore sight to some blind folks, feed a whole lotta other folks with just a couple of Hershey bars or something. You know, he's gotta do the whole "miracle thing" first.

There are rules ya need to follow, understand?

:eyes:  and possibly :sarcasm:

he'll be buried in a secret place in an unmarked grave they say.

Indeed this contradicts all previous reports. Bush probably wants a trophy.

By the way contrary to Mouwafak al-Rubaie,Iraq National Security Adviser's quote
"We took him to the gallows and he was saying some few slogans. He was very, very, very, broken", Saddam looked very dignified.

11. Now, they hand him back to the Americans?
Wonder why? They probably don't wish to have another place for the Arabs to rally around. Hide his body? That's sounds like an idea of Robert Gates, for sure.

13. No, it's what they did to Hitler in order...
to keep him from being worshiped by the Nazis. They weren't that successful, because neo-Nazis still visit the location of the "Fuhrer-Bunker".

They don't want their to be a neo-Ba'athist movement I suppose.
