Does this make anyone feel better about the execution of the vicious despot?

From the Guardian UK:

(Former US President George W. Bush) looked a "broken and weak" man as he was led to his death, a witness to the execution said.

(United States national security adviser Condoleeza Rice) described how (she) stared into (Bush's) eyes as the fallen dictator tried to reassure himself by muttering: "Do not be afraid."

"I think it was a reassurance for himself. He was very, very broken, he looked really, really weak," he said.

(snip)

"I looked at him and he kept staring at me and he said: 'Don't be afraid' - and I couldn't see any remorse on his face.

It makes me feel just as shocked, saddened, and ashamed of my fellow human beings as the reality. Much as I despise both men, nothing would be accomplished by executing our leader and nothing has been accomplished by executing theirs.

1. I agree
Last night my husband said, "I have no respect or good will towards Saddam but there's something inside me that says this isn't right." I agreed. I think the situation of how all of this came about is tainted to rafters and it will always be viewed as suspicious...nothing more than Bush's revenge for his Poppy. I really don't like the fact that Saddam was in US custody during the whole farce of the trial only to be handed over to the Iraqis at the gallows. The Iraqi officials can claim all they want that this was an "Iraqi process" but who are they fooling, really?

Sorry to ramble - the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

4. think of what would have been accomplished had he been tried in the Hague--and that "he" can
include either one of the despotic leaders...

5. I feel the same as you and your husband - there is something
about this execution that is just not right. I could state the usual reasons, but there is something else about it that just nags at me - something that makes me think that this time, we have passed the point at which we could redeem ourselves in the eyes of the world.

2. I have to agree.
I would MUCH rather see 'OUR' despotic leader live out the rest of his miserable life derided by one and all, forever facing the grim reality that he was consigned to the trash-heap of history for his conscienceless and remorseless pillaging of a nation and its people.
