I'm for IMPEACHMENT
This ship of state cannot right itself without it. Americans must show that this war, this stupid war that we cannot win, and that we never should have entered into, was not waged by Americans, but by a nutcase head of state that we are sorry got to be head of state, and are willing to depose through our will as a people.

We are Americans. I am proud to be an American. But I ashamed of George W. Bush. We must show, as Americans, our common shame in this President. We need to say, as a people, to the world AND to the Iraqis, that we were wrong, but we're going to fix it. We're going to make things right at least this far. This is what a decent human being does, when he/she is wrong--they admit it, and try to make amends. They do not continue on the same course as a matter of pride. And this same course is what George W. Bush has decided to keep us on, if we don't impeach him.

1. I agree..
To hell with the "Healing" crowd. Just as the chimp used a pre-emptive strike to start his war, the Dems need to use a pre-emptive strike to insure victory in 2008.

11. I'm part of the "healing crowd"!!!
And I don't believe there can be real healing unless we impeach his ass and send him to prison. How can you heal if you continually rip the scab off? Our country is one big open sore (as is the whole planet, thanks in no small part to dumbyass) and we need to apply a strong antiseptic if we are ever able to heal our bleeding hearts.

14. Impeaching him will make him a Republican martyr.
The people who still believe he is a good man would still think that if he strangled a puppy and ate it on FOX news. The Democrats are better off limiting the damage he can do in the next two years, and allow him to destroy the Republican Party from the inside.

Impeach him, and the "faithful" will rally around him, talking about how the "liberal media" are persecuting him. Pelosi is right- impeachment is not an option.

26. The only "faithful" left are the lunatic fringe of the GOP.
And they really don't count for a lot. Anyone who stands up for this prez and his policies right now is an idiot and I think that the whole world knows that, and most Americans do, too.

and let the politics work themselves out for a change? I think Washington, Jefferson et. al would prefer it that way.

BTW, welcome to DU!

39. But there are so few "faithful" left.
With about half of Americans "strongly disapproving" of this awful administration, I just don't see how the "rallying" around Bush you mention will be effective when conducted by so few people, all of them nutcases who deserve to be marginalized.

The only way forward is impeachment. We can shake this thing off and get back to being America again. The first step is to rid ourselves of the foul, vile criminals currently squatting in the White House. The people are behind us. Let's do it!

6. We also face decades of extreme and widespread hostilities in the Middle East
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 01:01 PM by TahitiNut
I don't believe there's any path that will extricate our military from the Middle East that doesn't include impeachment, removal, prosecution, conviction, and imprisonment of those primarily responsible for the war crimes, crimes against peace, and crimes against the Constitution by this administration. It is the duty of this nation to dos so and a failure to perform that duty leaves us without honor - an outlaw nation.

For the 'pragmatists' - the continued military occupation of the Middle East, involving tens of thousands of troops, will exact an economic toll on this nation that cannot be sustained. That toll, along with the federal deficit and the trade deficit, will eventually precipitate a national economic collapse - perhaps facilitiated by OPEC.

I typically eschew crystal-ball-gazing, but I cannot ignore the international stresses and conditions that set the stage for this. It seems almost unavoidable.

3. Impeach? I think he should be declared unfit for office!!!
He is clearly 'off the rails' and certifiably psychotic. He is a War Criminal and Enemy of the People of Earth!!! He has NO intention of EVER leaving Iraq. He has THREE carrier battle groups AND an MArine Amphib Assault Force in the Gulf! WE AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!!!

2007 will bring only more death and destruction, until this psychopath is put away and given the mental health care he so desperately needs.

4. Impeachment seems to be the best alternative.
Once the new congress makes the case and the votes start to line up in favor of removing this national disgrace from office, things will move quickly. This should be much less of a strain on our democracy than the Clinton impeachment. It will be somewhat bipartisan and clearly in the best interests of the country. It is quite possible that the folks in the Crawford bunker see it coming and are already packing their bags for the trip to Paraguay.

He tapped phones outside of the FISA court's jurisdiction and he tortured people in contradiction of US law.

He deserves a fair trial. But he should be tried, just like you and me. If I am caught breaking the law, I expect a fair trial. He should expect nothing less.

If the impeachment provision in the Constitution doesn't apply to Bush's behavior, then when would it apply?

To the Democratic congresspeople, I say, "class" isn't just about dealing with thugs by the Golden Rule, it's about doing the right thing. The Golden Rule also applies to those you represent, & we demand accountability. It's called "impeachment". Let the hearings begin.

31. We have to take down the "fat chance shelf"...
...and put a door in its place!

Remember that November 7 happening? People from both sides of the party line are disgusted with the loss of our country. We have to set the right tone to attract them to our cause. Like attracts like. Why would anyone want to join with a group of people who don't believe in their own cause?

We have to fake it 'til we make it!

If I can think of any more cliches, I'll get in touch!

33. I do not understand
I watched a documentary on PBS showing American solders killing and being killed. I can not for the life of me understand why the American people, as whole regardless of their political bent, have not stood together and demanded that we impeach Bush, Cheney, and Rice. The evidence that they lied to take us to war is there. It exist, it is logical, it is rational. They lied.
Now he seems determined to attack Iran.

How can we allow him to take us to war again.

37. This is true.
President Bush needs to pardon his entire administration in advance of the many crimes they have planned for the next two years. It is the only way we can heal. Those who say otherwise are mean. We don't want republicans to say we are mean. However, I hope that President Bush will pardon us for being mean in the past.

We need to give up this angry business. Listen to more Pat Boone. Stop listen to angry rock musicians with sublime messages. Dancing with others is bad. Scooter should be pardoned: he was never charged with dancing, and he just strikes me as a Pat Booner. The democratic left owes Scooter an apology. Let the healing begin.

That Joe Wilson had a hidden agenda. He wasn't a healer. People view him as a mean person -- I've heard as much on Fox News, and we all know there is a NYS federal law against fibbing on tv.

May Pat Boone forgive us over here, so he doesn't have to over there.
