I just have never had the urge to do so, no matter what I've read here.

1. I've done in LBN for non-news.
And I admit to one or two alerts on obvious trolls. I find the ignore feature more to my liking.

3. Nope. Me neither.
As I have posted sooooo often: DU is a wide open Wild West town (nearly). Watching the fist-fights is a part of it. And the Really Good and Wise stuff is always right there, too.

So, everybody.....scan and ignore/ scan and ignore/ scan and absorb.

No need to fret about it being "so frightfully horrible in here".

Just move along.

4. I have done it a few times over six years
Having been a mod here a few times, I have a pretty high threshold of insanity, but there have been a few times that were clearly 'trolls.'

The only time it would be appropriate is for blatant attacks on others.

10. While Adherence To The 'Code Of The Schoolyard" Is Understandable, Sir
We do depend a good deal on members using the alert button to inform us of troubling actions here. We cannot possibly be everywhere and see everything ourselves.

11. I'll alert when some idiot threatens death or other harm . . .
since I don't want this board damaged so foolishly. I'll also alert when someone's spamming the boards, usually late at night. Most times, though, I simply place offenders on ignore. It's remarkable how pleasant that feature can make the experience here.

12. I use the alert button
when there is an obvious breaking of the rules, such as a personal attack on a matter that has nothing to do with the post or an obvious troll trying to stir up trouble. I think that alert helps the mods know when there is a potential flame war happening, and helps us get back to discussion of the issue at hand. In fact, I encourage anyone who reads a post that is flame bait NOT to answer, no matter how tempting. To me it is far more satisfactory to hit alert, come back after a while, and find the troll tombstoned than to participate in a flame war.

13. Not me. Thick skin, ya know.
If freepers show up, I'd rather play with their heads a little before dropping the dime on them.
