16. That's not the intention of this post in any way whatsoever...
I am trying to get people to think about the past couple of days, and our reactions to two different events.

22. Exactly.
Might as well as "who do you hate more - Saddam or cute little kiddies" - it's a ridiculuous post to begin with...

7. I'm asking this because of what I've witnessed in the past couple of days...
there has been this big stink raised about Saddam Hussein, an almost sympathy for the man.

On the other hand, when Gerald Ford died, the first response was to rip him to shreds.

I don't know about you, but that big disparity sickens me. Why are we more willing to attack a dead US President, than a brutal dictator?

9. I am assuming the difference is in the manner of deaths.
Gerald Ford was not executed.

14. It sure didn't seem like that.
From the past few days, if an alien observer could see DU, it'd be pretty clear that Saddam was not as bad a person as Gerald Ford.

Such an anger at Ford, where was the anger for Hussein?

I'm not the only person to point this out, it really looks like there are a number of people who think Gerald Ford is worse than Saddam.

17. It seems pretty clear to me that the execution makes a world of difference.
Much of the discussion revolves around SH's trial and execution, the suspected motives behind them, and the ramifications thereof. The criticism of President Ford dealt with his actions and inactions while in office. Both men are dead, but the means of death remains a large part of many posters' feelings.

13. Saddam was executed, Ford died naturally at a ripe old age of 93
Are you with the same crowd that wonders how we can criticize Bush for commiting murder, yet not spend the same amount of time criticizing the terrorists? Bush represents us and is destroying the US and the world. The terrorists are like cockroaches - I don't waste breath on them either - I just squish them when I see them.

15. Yes, I point hypocrisy, so that must make me a freeper.
:eyes:

This isn't the same thing. People were talking about Saddam Hussein and Gerald Ford, pretty much in the same amount, and the general tenor of the Gerald Ford posts was to rip him a new one. Saddam...not so much.

18. Ford was our president, not Saddam
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 04:09 PM by stonecoldsober
We have every right to criticize him. Your own poll proves you are wrong. It was a dumb question.

And NO, I don't think you're a freeper - I'm sorry if there was the implication.

10. But you goofed calling Hussein "President"
The MSM calls him "Dictator". But the ambiguity makes for some interesting headline juggling. The people I really feel sorry for in the MSM are the ones who had already put their "Year in Review" stories to bed. No egg nog for them tomorrow.

but the original poster does with this idiotic poll and ridiculous assertion that there has been sympathy for Saddam Hussein here.

See kentuck's excellent post for why you've got it wrong.

23. This is pretty offensive
Regardless of your position on the Iraq war, the death penalty, the Nixon pardon, Republicans, Shiites, or George Bush, to compare these two people is foolish and irresponsible.

I'm not sure why anyone would.

24. Have you heard about the slaughter in E. Timor?
Perhaps that is why someone would compare the two.

Remember Henry Kissinger?

Is it OK when we do it?

25. Give us more choices!
There are folks out there, Dubya included (and Cheney and Rummy, and so on), who disgust me more than did Saddam. After all, Saddam was just 'our' puppet who got 'out of line,' and was 'our' ally when he did most of his murdering.
