Something that REALLY bothered me when listening to the radio yesterday. |
|
I was surfing the AM spectrum because for some reason AAR can't be bothered to have guest hosts and what scared me more than anything was the not so much the glee of the right wingers over Saddam being executed.
What really scared me was listening to the idiot right wingers praising the execution being carried so quickly after sentencing. The general consensus on the right is that we should adopt the same swift execution here and bemoaning the fact that US citizens have the right to appeals and such.
They are a bloodthirsty bunch and CANNOT be allowed to run this country.

1. We'll never get to the point of 30 days from sentencing to execution... |

... but, for the states still buying into capital punishment, it would be nice to trim it down a decade or two.

One needs only to look at cases where people have spent more than a decade trying to prove their innocence and being released when finally given a fair hearing.

5. I wonder how many people have been sentenced to death on circumstantial evidence. |
|
I am opposed to the death penalty, but if it has to be legal, at the very least it should NEVER be an option without concrete physical evidence.

2. Maybe we should resurrect the Coliseum and just toss the convicted to the lions. |

6. Only poor people get executed. |
|
People who can hire their own lawyers, don't.
But even if we operated in a perfectly just way, where no one got railroaded and everyone had good representation I still could not endorse the death sentence under any circumstances other than maybe self-defense in the moment on the part of an individual--not the state.

7. I have been troubled by the radio talk shows, also |
|
It reminds me of pictures I have seen of crowds at a lynching. I guess Americans really haven't changed much. The simple ones, who don't think and just listen to talk radio, are celebrating this death. They are bloodthirsty and barbaric simpletons. Last century they were told to hate and fear blacks. Now they are told to hate and fear Arabs. They make me ashamed.
