I want to remember him when he came out of the "rabbit hole" and was being checked by the doctor.
That's good enough.
If I change my mind, I'm sure the pictures will still be on the Internet. I'll search Google for "SADDAM EXECUTION VIDEO" -- When I do that tonight, I get seven pages of hits!
Good night and good luck.

For example, there was all kinds of human to human violence depicted in "Apocalypto." I was pretty disgusted by the end of that film.
I don't have to have nightmares over Saddam Hussein.

Saddam's death doesn't feel special to me, and I don't intend to make it feel special by watching the "snuff film" of his last moments.
That said, I haven't been able to escape the pictures from the NY Times and The Independent's front pages.

I feel the entire ordeal was wrong from the start . I also feel ones imagination is enough .
The news and the internet have gone far past the point of no reture with their insistent desensitizing efforts .
I suppose they feel there is some sort of proof to be offered by seeing the views of a dead man .
I'll have to take their word for this .
I made the great mistake turning on CNN this morning with only the hope of hearing they decided not to go through with this hanging only to find they had and I caught the bit with the black scarf placed around Saddams neck and the view of the rope and trapdoor . I did'nt need this , now I can't get it out of my head . Pretty sick stuff .

It seems as though the value of a human life, any human life, meant more back then. We have a president who touts freedom but treats human life like a commodity. Although he can't get the numbers right, the people who have died for his vanity is still just a number to him.

For a supposedly "Christian" nation with high principles, we sure do revel in gore.
Wow. How crass. We make sure the guy is dead on (a) the eve of the Muslim holiday of forgiveness (timing is everything); and (b) before Iran can get at him (then the world would know we played a role in Saddam's crimes against the Iranians).
And we top it off by reveling in pictures of his execution. Golly, I wonder why other nations of the world don't like us so much. :sarcasm:

I want to remember at least some of the good things that Hussein was able to do: universal education, sufferage and womens' rights, low infant mortality rates, some semblance of a civil society (at least compared to the anarchy that exists today).
B*** turned back the clock on Iraq for at least 1000 years or more. What a sorry contribution to humanity!

and pictures, just simply horrifying. These are people with whom I thought I had a kinship, in terms of my progressive values. Yet, many are behaving like the lynch mobs of the late 1800s. Their bloodlust and macabre desire to see the extremely violent death of another human being--no matter how horrible that person's deeds--is devastating for me to see. But, many posting on DU are no better than the MSM (nor probably Free Republic) in exploiting this horrendous incident.
Those whose chests are pushed out and adrenaline rushing at the thought of Saddam's hanging are no better than Bush* himself, if you ask me. Flame me if you wish. I will not be responding.

Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 10:53 PM by alyce douglas
times did the MSM play Saddam being examined when he was found. It is disgusting, and what is even more troubling is how they executed him before the Moslem Haaj. That is like executing a Christian before Christmas, I think Maliki was just a puppet and the strings were being pulled by our disgusting regime to put Saddam to death. His death will not matter one bit, our troops are still out there being sacrificed for George.

one of coworkers today talked about this almost non-stop during downtimes. I told her I thought it was wrong--she is a Bush supporter and a Christian and doesn't understand that "Thou shalt not kill" or "vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord"...and all that stuff. I also told her that I didn't want to talk about it. She went on and on and on and on...even to the specifics of what the neck looked like.:( Anyway...she then shocked me. She said she thought she would feel different, but for some reason, she felt icky. Go figure.:eyes:
