A demented old man and a rope that could hang an elephant |
|
Is THIS what we have stooped to? I was awakened very early this morning by MSNBC and a partial tape of Bush's big victorious moment...the hanging of Saddam Hussein. Masked *Jihadist type* looking/executioners? A rope of a size that could tow a Humvee completely submerged in mud, out of a ditch? A dazed and confused looking old man remaining defiant to the very end. Gee, call me naive...but wasn't what I witnessed this morning basically a mirror image of the way Saddam conducted his business with his enemies? What I witnessed this morning should be an offense to every man and woman in the US military. It should be an offense to every family who sacrificed a loved one to fight in this mess. It should be an offense to us all as so called civilized Americans and why in the hell is this type of thing being done in the name of the American people?
We are SUPPOSED TO BE above this type of thing--we were supposed to be the liberators, not the get on board and be just as vile as the oppressors with kangaroo proceedings and public hangings and snuffish type films of same. I was certainly no fan of Saddam Hussein (I sort of doubt any people here were)
Saddam was a corrupt President and a bad leader. His orders and tactics killed thousands of innocent people (sound familiar?) but as a people and a country I thought we would be above sponsoring, condoning and broadcasting to the world the very obscene circus act that I witnessed this morning. As much as I loathe the policies and tactics of OUR current leader...I would never condone that he, or anyone in his administration (regime) be treated in such a fashion if they were to be convicted of crimes against humanity (and with 3000 plus US troops and 100 thou plus civilians dead in Iraq, I think it could be argued that old Saddam and bushit have a little something in common when it comes to lying, plotting and having blood on their hands) Such blatantly staged barbarism is not what I want to be identified with. Of all the horrendous PR stunts that bushco has pulled and gotten away with over the years this one left even me picking my jaw up off of the floor. This group has reached a whole new low and worse still...the dummies have probably turned Hussein into a martyr in the process.
Bush and his idiot cabinet are not only conniving thieves...they just aren't bright enough to lead.
WTF? Happy New Year indeed!

1. I haven't watched the news at all today. |
|
Evidently, I missed qite a show.
From what I've read, I agree with everything you said.
We are better than this.
Bloodlust is not an American value.

Our serial killers here who are put to death are usually treated like kings in comparison with what I watched this morning.
I am not a great fan of the death penalty to begin with but even if I were what they did to Hussein seemed beyond the pale in so many ways.

2. I'll make an exception for BushCo...... |
|
....sorry, but as vile as it may be I would take a few minutes of unadulterated cheer.
Why? Because, yea, Saddam was a nasty, brutal, vile, sadistic Dictator - but he didn't put on any airs about it. He did what he did to stay in Power (not that that's right). He didn't do it under some pretext of Liberty, Freedom, Peace or whatever else Bush uses to justify his atrocities. Saddam didn't stand there and told his people he was torturing and killing them for their own good - he did it for Saddam's own good - everyone knew it and Saddam didn't hide that fact. Bush stands there and feeds us crap, day after day, how torturing, maiming and killing Iraqis (and our own Soldiers) is for some greater purpose which nobody seems to be able to see but him.

4. I understand your point |
|
BUT I know I would not want to see even bushco treated in such a manner if we were invaded by another country and taken over...even though I detest bushco and would blame him and his stupidity if such an event were to take place it would be all that much more demeaning to see the moron get his just desserts under those circumstances. That was convoluted as hell, so hopefully someone can get my logic lol

5. Oh I understand what you're saying..... |

I wouldn't want to see BushCo treated that way by a foreign invader either...I think that pleasure should belong to the American People alone. As bad as that sounds.....but that's how I feel about it. There were Presidents that I liked....there were a few I didn't like - a few good ones, a few nad ones ...but I have never felt about any President the way I feel about W. There is no punishment bad enough for what that man has done.
