M Theory
Just finished watching a (repeat of a) show on the Science channel about M Theory and parallel universes. It's always great to be a science fiction fan, because you, at the very least, can pick up many references in a show like this, even if you don't understand the whole thing.

The most fascinationg thing to me, a creative person and a writer, is the unlimited and infinite possibilities this kind of scientific scenario presents. SF writers have, for years, used the parallel dimension plot device without any grounding in reality. Now, before you can blink twice, it's touted as the probable beginning to our own universe. And, at the same time, it's offering the additional idea that there are infinite parallel universes, many of which echo our own, except for one thing that might be different, such as Al Gore being elected president (wish that were ours!!) instead of Bush, or the American revolution being won by the British.

So--what do you think? If we accept this theory, we need to think of some of the parallel universes that might exist, and that is your task! Think of what kind of universes are potentially out there, and tell us about them! Spare nothing in your thoughts of another universe, and share them with us! Suddenly science fiction can yield a thousand different inspirations, and everyone's imagination is as valid as the next.

1. I think it's more likely that parallel universes
would be as alien to us as life on other planets will be. Consider that the laws of physics in our own might not apply in another universe.

Scale might be wildly different, too, with one universe being as large as a speck of dust in another.

Shoot, they can't even agree on how many dimensions there are in ours, yet. The more you pick it apart mathematically, the weirder it gets.

2. Communication between dimensions is also not ruled out
:hi: Hey I was just watching that show too!
Supposedly since there are interactions between the dimensions, communication might also be possible.

Branes!

3. Visualize negative EVERYTHING
Can you imagine something being colder than absolute zero, meaning that you'd have to warm that substance up just so the atoms could remain motionless? Just try to visualize something as being slower than motionless. Hurts my brain just trying to contemplate it.

Then there's negative height, negative mass, negative volume, all that good stuff.

5. What would be the jumping off points for these parallel universes?
What would cause one to form?
