4. Carter recently did an interview for the Advocate |
|
a gay rights magazine. he is extremely pro-gay and said all Americans should enter civil unions and leave marriage to the churches. He really bashed the right wing Christians too.

9. I happen to agree with Carter. I think the civil unions, sanctioned |
|
by government should be available to everyone, but I thought that Gays were also pushing for churches to sanction those marriages?

20. Who says a gay family cannot be Xtian? That is the issue. Some people |
|
believe in god and are not allowed to live their lives that way.

22. So, are you expecting every church to sanction your weddings? |
|
Or just the liberal ones? Because I think it's time to set realistic goals. Republicans keep calling Liberals belligerent, but they can't be belligerent if what they ask for is reasonable.

23. I'm not gay. And - different churches sanctions weddings in different |
|
ways. The fact is nobody ever said any church has to change their ways. If they have a congregation - then they go with what the congregation wants. There should be options in most major communities for two religious souls to be married under god. Just as there are options for two non-religious souls to be married by the state - with no religious blessing.

25. Well, then why don't the liberal churches just start expanding? |
|
I presume that these folks that want to have their weddings sanctioned in the church will also be regular church attendees and financially support such an organization.

18. Carter is, and always has been, so logical on issues that seem |
|
so hard to figure out. He thinks it out and then most always comes to the right conclusion. I believe he puts himself in another's shoes, and tries to think how he would feel. If all Christians were as good as Carter, I would join them.

24. Many are as good as Carter. You can find some truly devout - walk |
|
the walkers out there. Look for them. Just like hanging with a great scientist or a great community leader - hanging with great religious types... will blow your mind.

I was in the AF while Carter was President, and he really had his hands full. Now he would be a WONDERFUL PRESIDENT. Hey, he's allowed to run again (wink, wink).

17. He was smart then, too |
|
Crucified by the present junta. I think he was too moral to survive in DC. Hell, even that former ho who's married to Ben Bradley carped continuously in her 'society' column on what hayseeds the Carters were. She was vile. All the so-called insiders were.

shot to manipulate Washington power brokers - as Clinton was later able to do - but I sure liked the guy. Brokered an historic peace initiative in the Middle East but got a really raw deal on the Iranian hostage scenario.

Carter has more class in his little finger than GWB has in his entire body. I'm sorry I lost faith in Carter in the '70s, but it was the times...sigh.

What an honest, decent, intelligent, compassionate, MAN.
There are very few men in this world that make it to my own personal "respect" list - and he's one.
I can't say enough about him. Truly.
