20. As a former cadet, I can assure you it's very little.

Military academy cadets are compliant and obedient 'toy soldiers' for this kind of charade. It's a heady experience for the kid from a working class family. We were 'schooled' in the niceties of such things as leaving our calling cards (government-supplied, of course) and escorting the daughters of the elite families at a variety of events. That 'schooling' was, INDEED, paid for on the taxpayer's dime. The attendance at such functions, however, is subsidized by the host family.

The fellow in the photo appears to be Air Farce Academy - home of religiously-righteous fighters - and is also a junior or (more likely) a senior ... so he's about 21 years old. Leave it to the Bushtard spawn to elect Air Farce cadets ... the most obscenely indoctrinated of all.

63. The silver-colored chevrons on a dark blue dress tunic indicate USAFA to me.

The thin diagonal stripes on the cuff indicate the class - which looks like 3rd-year or junior, but it'd be unusual (iirc) for a junior to have corps of cadets rank (the chevrons on the shoulder). When I was in, a freshman had no stripes on the cuff, a sophomore had one narrow diagonal stripe, a junior had two narrow diagonal stripes, and a senior had one narrow non-diagonal stripe.

Well, I just reviewed the current Air Force Academy Cadet insignia...

It seems the guy is a junior ... a cadet Master Sergeant. It seems the Air Force Academy has adopted a ranking system that portrays NCO-equivalent insignia for juniors. We didn't have that at the USCGA in the 60s. These 'rankings' are solely within the Corps of Cadets ... and don't change their pay grade or ranking relative to the regular armed forces. (It's like "student council president" in a civilian school ... but far more extensive.)

The narrow diagonal sleeve striping confirms that he's a cadet.


Insofar as being a "fundie" ... I'm admittedly painting 'em with a broad brush. The Air Force Academy has even made it into the news with their more 'zealous' conservative Christian attitudes.
