"Presidential prayer team": Give thanks that Saddam was executed!
http://www.presidentialprayerteam.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ppt_homepage

"Give thanks for justice done in Iraq regarding Saddam Hussein...Pray for peace and stability for the people of Iraq...As President Bush has met with his National Security team, give thanks for progress made...Pray for wisdom as he determines new strategies regarding our effort in Iraq."

====

Give thanks that there was an execution? Give thanks for the progress made in Iraq? This group of fundies-with-blinders-on are indeed the last holdouts of Bush's coterie.

And they're plum delusional.

7. Visited a friend's church today and the pastor
said that Saddam's execution was "God's will". Then he asked the congregation to pray for members of the cabinet and also to pray for Alberto Gonzalez as he "interprets God's will regarding treatment of detainees". It was hard for me to believe I was hearing this but there it was.

35. Welcome to DU!
I posted something about this yesterday, how "GOP churches" would be praising this today and I got blasted by a few posters who think "GOP churches" don't exist.

Was the friend's church predominantly a repub church?

churches by definition. Actually, this church is not bad unless the preacher starts waxing eloquently about politics, abortion, or evolution, then I start wincing. Of course, whenever election time rolls around the "questionnaires" come out (these are called "election guides"), where all the Republican candidates have answered all the questions the "right" way and almost none of the Democratic candidates even respond to the questions at all, so they are answered for them by the publishers.

53. Without hesitation...
I would stand up, walk to the middle of the aisle, and say, "May Christ forgive you." to the 'pastor' before walking the hell out.

I'd probably even spit right in the aisle.

We should never put up with this shit. Call on all Christians to actually behave like Christians... anything else is abominable.

I think I'll start attending mass at some fundie churches just so I can do that.

Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 05:00 PM by libnnc
And every day I worked there, I noticed a car in the parking lot (always parked in the visitors spot so I think it belonged to a sub too) covered--literally with those stickers. One in every window. I used to hope I didn't have to encounter the car's owner in the teacher's lounge.

21. I think we know now why Saddam "had" to be executed this weekend.
It was to get the news of the 3000 American dead off the front page, at least temporarily. Bush knew the figure would reach the 3000 mark by this weekend, and so did everyone else.

31. Saddam's execution "God's gift to iraqis", scary visions
It's scary when people starts using Gods name to take away other's lives.

-snip..
"In his Friday sermon, a mosque preacher in the Shi'ite holy city of Najaf called Saddam's execution "God's gift to Iraqis."

"Oh, God, you know what Saddam has done! He killed millions of Iraqis in prisons, in wars with neighboring countries and he is responsible for mass graves. Oh God, we ask you to take revenge on Saddam," said Sheik Sadralddin al-Qubanji, a member of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, known as SCIRI, the dominant party in Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's coalition."
