Hollywood Goes All-Gay in Oscar Noms. |
|
Gay writer--Capote Gay cowguys--Brokeback Mountain Gay racist policeman--Crash Gay country singer--Walk the Line Gay dancer--Cinderella Man Gay terrorists--Munich Gay reporter--Good Luck, Good Night Gay nudist--Hello, Mrs Henderson Gay miner--North Country Gay oil tycoons--Syriana Gay gardener--Constant Gardener Gay gangster kingpin--History of Violence Gay ingenue--Pride and Prejudice Gay rap star--Hustle & Flow Gay penguin--March of Penguins
Of course I don't mind the gays taking over, but meanwhile, what many thought was a great movie that brought in fifty times more cold hard cash than all the nominated movies combined, namely, Wedding Crashers, got NO (zero) nominations. Could it be because it starred two very decent and good-natured straight role models? Hmmm? Just sayin'.

31. Nah, definitely gay - in the George Michael, sweaty bathroom sort of way |
|
You know, one of those types who revels in their supposed masculine sexuality, then gets caught literally with their pants down in some gay cruiser bathroom. Bush & Cheney engage in dirty, ugly prison-gay sex.
But I know what you mean. I don't think that either gays or straight people want to claim Bushie as one of their own.

22. Ok, DU. We need to come to an understanding about the Bush/gay put-downs. |
|
You can ridicule Bush all you want but NOT with stereotypes rooted in sexism. I would think most of you would know better by now. It's offensive and ignorant.
Thank you for thinking it over.

29. OTOH...there is a MOUNTAIN of evidence that Bush... |
|
is your standard variety, deeply insecure, profoundly homophobic , *100% (or close to that) heterosexual*, 20th century American male.
See, for example, Bush on the Couch, by Justin Frank, MD.
Please... take him ; he's *YOURS*.

26. Why did you consider it a put down? |
|
All I posted was "gay president."
There have been many stories about his college shenanigans, Geoff Gannon, etc. He may well be gay. It seemed apropos to the subject, and I'm surprised you'd take it as a putdown. I didn't think being gay was an insult.

35. Please don't make inferences about what I mean - or my reaction. |

"...and I'm surprised you'd take it as a putdown. I didn't think being gay was an insult.
Atman - I responded to your post by writing, "Straight President." There have been many stories about his former girlfriend's abortion and his current long-term marriage with a woman(gasp). He may well be straight. It seems to be the counterpoint to your assertion.
What I find offensive (and ignorant) is mentioned above.

but it didn't get no noms. Let's spread out the wealth to straight people, because at least they showed up and joined in the merriment, which a lot of people get invited to things and don't even go.

I didn't see the movie because it hasn't come to our village yet, but I bet there is a good straight wedding cake fight in it somewhere. And yet still, NO NOMS.

16. Your fears are well-founded. Led by Hollywood depictions on film, |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:29 PM by Old Crusoe
the entire straight world will soon face a mass phase-out across the board in all human endeavors.
Heterosexuals will no longer be needed, or for that matter, even welcome.
Only gay films will be made. Only gay tv shows will be programmed. Only gay country&western singers. Only gay everything from here on in.
Hold on to your hat! ___
I don't consider BROKEBACK for example a "gay" film. I consider it well-told fiction by Annie Proulx and absolutely pristine adaptation to screenplay by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Also, Emmylou Harris, an AVOWED heterosexual, sings a splendid tune on the film's soundtrack.

27. The day after the Golden Globes |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:39 PM by ruggerson
Medved was calling them the Gay Globes and lamenting the gay "agenda."
A couple of callers told him they were offended and I thought briefly about calling him and asking him if The Diary Of Anne Frank, Schindler's List and Munich had all come out in the same year and won awards, would he have called them the "Jew Globes"?
But then I thought better of it; I imagined that life would somehow go better for me if I could look back at ninety and say that I had never, not once, uttered a word to Michael Medved.

Or Witlessly. But not gay. Musclemen only snap towels and pretend to act gay in order to show they are so straight it doesn't matter, which of course it doesn't, not to me anyway. That's why I brought it up, because I'm so extremely straight that I might as well be gay.
