We F**ked Up in the Sixties…. |

While we were telling like it was; they were learning how to tell it like it would sell.

6. Don't have to fight "dirty". Just have to use psychology & symbols |
|
Most DU'ers think selling your point of view is somehow beneath them.
That people should just "get it" and respond to rational arguments.
Unfortunately, that's not how humans operate.

8. What is damaging now is not seeing what is obvious. |
|
The old rules and institutions are gone. Discussing how to win the next election is a waste of time. The game is over. They won, We lost. Plan for the next game with a new set of rules.

15. I found a good site however |
|
and ordered a DVD called "Rebels With a Cause." I was in a good SDS local but it was totally infiltrated by PL and those of us who were anarchists and non-Maoist socialists had to form an auxiliary campus rad group to get anything done. Also, on our campus only about 400 of us at most could be called rads and antiwar people. The other 20,000 calmly went on to destroy what was left of the positive aspects of the U.S.

No, seriously. No knock on wood, go outside, turn around three times and spit. Seriously. There are still a few people they could take out.

19. My theory: We way underestimated the opposition and we equally |
|
underestimated what a threat our ideas were to the real structures of power above politics. Some of us foresaw this crisis that is now breaking out all around us and spoke of the need for developing sustainable, alternative culture. These ideas had great merit but were deliberately sabotaged and left unrecognized and unfunded because they inherently counter hegemony and decentralize power and wealth. The fascists truly do hate us for our freedom.

As I posted to another thread: I don't think what's coming will be contained within US borders. It will be global. My estimate, 75 to 90 % of current global population gone within the next 20 to 50 years. I do not intend to survive it. In two to three generations, it will be a whole new world. The tribulations of the 20th and 21st centuries will be 'ancient' history. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=2079356&mesg_id=2080587

26. They're aren't better at crafting the message |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 02:15 AM by balzac
They recovered from the initial effect of TV, which was to reveal truth to the masses. They recovered by buying all the TV stations to deceive the masses. It's all about media ownership, not that they have a more compelling message.
It's also noteworthy that they've culled some of our greatest leaders over the years. Abe Lincoln, MLK, the Kennedy brothers, John Lennon. Heck, even FDR was worn down by openly treasonous opposition during WWII. His opposition gave him no quarter and wore him down.

27. right, and now they're working on the net |
|
there's much too much truth to be found here for them to just ignore it and let it....be.
and yes, they always take our leaders. look what happened to the last torchbearer, paul wellstone. i often wonder what our congress would look like now if he was still here.
