7. Why...
... should it be required by the Government for a private business to carry a product they do not want to carry??

I don't care really if it because the owners of the business are against the morning after pill, I simply do not agree with forcing a private business to do something they do not wish to do.

An oversimplification I suppose, but oh well.

10. The public good
Would you agree to them refusing to sell any other medicinal product?

This is harassment against women based on political ideology grounds.

11. Walmart is being sued over not providing them
in a lawsuit in Mass.
I think that is why CNN put up the poll.

A giant should not be allowed to discriminate against women.

17. In keeping with the current tenor of things in the country ...

... I am always afraid to venture into the world of common sense. But I think my fellow DUers have common sense, so I'll put this out there.

While I totally disagree with any pharmacy refusing to dispense any legal medication prescribed by a physician, I do understand that some pharmacists are concientious objectors when it comes to dispensing the morning-after pill, contraceptive devices and birth control pills.

Of course, there is the obvious argument - if you're a vegan, working as a rep for the beef industry might not be the perfect job for you. But once you take that job, you're committed to doing it. 'Nuff said; I think we all agree on that point.

So here comes the common sense portion of this evening's program: Why don't the Christian powers-that-be fund their own chain of drug stores? God knows (pun intended) they have the financial resources. Instead of taking jobs in drug stores where they will be committed to doing something against their religious beliefs, why not open their own drug stores which can be advertized as 'Christian-friendly', where birth control pills and contraceptive devices are NOT SOLD, and the public is advised accordingly?

This accomplishes two things: (A) Pharmacists who believe that these items should not be available to their customers are not 'forced' to sell them, and Christians who share that same belief can support this idea by doing all of their drug store shopping in these designated stores. (B) By having 'designated' pharmacies, customers who want to purchase birth control items can do so in all of the other 'normal', full-service pharmacies, and will not be faced with a pharmacist who refuses to do their job.

If Fundie Christians are truly interested in having 'Christian-friendly' pharmacies, they should put their money where their mouth is - and leave the rest of us to go about our lives without the threat of being denied a prescription by people who have no right to do so.

18. I would have to know more information
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 12:58 AM by tritsofme
Are pharmacies required to carry all drugs?

Are they required to stock all forms of contraception?

I don't think I would agree with forcing a company to stock an item if it was not common practice.

Not stocking a drug at all and individual pharmicists refusing to fill prescriptions sounds different to me.

That being said, "conservative" opposition to the morning after pill proves that they are hypocrites more interested in controlling women's lives than decreasing the amount of abortion in this country.

If there was easy access to the morning after pill, abortion could almost disappear in this country.
