Danny Schecter, media complicity in Iraq war...
Has anyone read this yet? Any thoughts? Did he offer anything we haven't heard before on AAR or from Media Matters?

I am reading it over the weekend, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

2. Thanks :) I am quickly becoming quite fond of this forum...
and I seriously didn't even know it existed before I saw some derogatory comments about it on a right-wing board, lol.

Personally, I'm willing to bet that a lot of Danny's research will be slightly different from what we've been offered thus far, but that most of his conclusions will be more of the same. Not to say that it won't be worth reading and wasn't worth him writing--the more publicity the right-wing slant of the SCLM can get, the better, especially from someone with a record like his.

I haven't read the article you refer to. Do you have a link?

I think the rightwing blogs are DU's best recruiters, btw ~ :-)

Btw, you said you would be interviewing Danny Schechter in another thread. Where can we find that interview?

6. I'm talking to him on Tuesday, and most likely the interview will show up>
late Tuesday or Wednesday morning on opednews.com.

Sorry, I should have been more specific--it's his new book, When News Lies: Media Complicity and the War in Iraq (I might have mixed up the title a little, but close enough for now).

9. Oh, okay, thank you ~
I'll look forward to the interview ~ I hope he covered the entire media, all of whom were complicit in the lies, most notably, the NYT's Judith Miller. I would like very much to know whether Judy was duped or whether she was part of the propaganda. A Rolling Stone article recently went into great detail about the PR firm hired by this administration to 'sell' the war to the American people. I believe it is called The Rendon Group. I do recall hearing about it in the beginning of the war and wondered why anyone would need to 'sell' a war. It seemed incredibly cynical and totally distasteful. I believe they were paid millions of dollars for their 'work'.

Judith Miller was mentioned in the article as a conduit of the false WMD story. It did not outright accuse her of being complicit, but did imply that she was played a crucial role, as I recall.

I would also like to know his opinion of the NYT editors giving her so much free reign. Even while she was writing he WMD stories, completely unchallenged apparently by the editors, there were others who were claiming there were no WMDs in Iraq. One would think that if WE, ordinary people, were aware of the conflicting stories, they too should have been. Many of those contracting the 'evidence' were very credible people.

4. You're talking about "When News Lies"?
I hadn't even heard about this...must check it out.

I am experiencing aggravation-burn from reading the "The Great Unraveling" and "The Price of Loyalty" though. I think I need a couple of months away from the truth ;-)

7. yeah, the truth can start to pain the brain after awhile...
I haven't read either of those, I'll have to check them out.

I just ordered this one with one-day shipping from Amazon, so hopefully it will get here in time for me to read it first, lol.

5. Its a good read. Surprisingly non-partisan.
I expected it to be a major slam at the administration and the media. It was much more than that.

It is a pragmatic look at how things are.

8. Good news, I was hoping for that...
kind of answer. While I expect the usual about FOX and whatnot, I am hoping for a clearer picture of the rest of the mainstream media as well.
