One more subtle little way Bush has changed my life for the worse- |
|
I was listening to my husband's alarm clock--he has it set on NPR--and I heard the word "Family." Specifically something about "He's a solid family man."
My jaws just clenched---I am so damned tired of that word right now I could just throw up. I am sick of the Republican's idea of "family," (one woman, one man, preferably blond and tanned, 2 kids, a golden retriever, Sunday Christians, own home, small SUV, one minivan)---
I realized that before this stupid sonofabitch with his Taliban following has driven me over the edge.
Anyone else?

1. Very good point. I think we allowed a handfull of people to define... |
|
what family is, we allowed them to define morals, we allowed them to define what America should be.
Well, it is high time for us to set the tone.

2. Don Corleone was a family man |

"Christians" are what is wrong with this country. They are not patriotic, because they do not love freedom. They want to force what they pick and choose in the bible on segments of the population they hate. They want to be team members so they cheer bush on regardless of what he does. They proclaim their love of life while insisting our troops continue to slaughter innocent Iraqis. They march to church on sunday like drones to get their instructions on who to hate and who to boycott and to deposit their tithing as instructed. And they search in the bible for the passages that justify their hate then discard the rest of the book. They are intentionally ignorant. Yeah, I'm with you.

qualification" for appointment to some of our most important governmental positions. :hi:

4. Yes, so many of them are "family men"... |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 08:12 AM by Crankie Avalon
...in fact, they're such family men that they're family men a couple of times over, what with all the divorces these Rush Limbaughs, Newt Gingriches, Ronald Reagans (RIH - Rest in Hell) and so many of the rest of them have on their CVs.

Getting divorced and then re-married is not such a big deal these days.
Especially not for John Kerry - who got his first marriage anulled by a Bishop (because millionaire widow Teresa would only agree to get married in church).
My only issue with that is: what message does it send to Kerry's own kids? "My marriage to your mother was a big mistake from day 1 and I wish it had never happened".
So really - what right do we Dems have to judge others on this issue?

I have never, not once...seen anyone on this board claim Kerry is a "good family man." Ever. When the hell did HE claim to be a "good family man?" Of course I think having his marriage anulled was ridiculous---I think that whole idea of anullment for people who have been married for awhile is stupid. Get a damned divorce in court-

9. If it was a Catholic ceremony |
|
which I'm sure it was, annulment is the only way that will allow you to be married again in the Catholic church - it just proves that he cares about his brand of faith (or his ex-wife does)...

7. What do you mean "we Dems?"... |
|
...I don't know you from Adam.
What I'm saying is that it's the rightwing Repubs ("you rightwing Repubs?") who are always judging people on this. It's always that side who bring up this "good family man" business up. I'm pointing out they are in no position to do so as they are no better than anyone else--and in MANY ways and instances, quite a good deal WORSE.

8. Like Giuliani marrying his own cousin and then seeking an annulment? |
|
Based on the grounds that she was his....cousin. 'Cause that was obviously a surprise to them both. They must've thought all those family get-togethers growing up were really business meetings. :eyes:
Before you print nonsense about subjects of which you haven't the proverbial clue, you might want to read a bit more than the crap you find on Free Republikkk.

10. Hmmm...let's look at the divorce rates |
|
in them red states. And among them hyper-Christian types. Let's hold Newt Gingrich, that sleazy lizard up as a shining example of morality, shall we?
And another thing: just because you wish you could undo your marriage doesn't mean you'd like to undo your kids. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Strawman argument, pal.

16. That is the great hypocrisy of the whole "gay marriage" debate |
|
If gay unions are such a threat to traditional marriage, than wouldn't divorce be as well? How can you outlaw one and not the other based on that rationale?

11. Kerry never based any campaign on being a family man. |
|
Although he seems to get along fine with his kids & step-kids.
What have the Bush twins been up to lately? Although their parents remain married, they've been sadly deprived in the parenting department.
It's the preaching about Family, followed by multiple divorces, that distinguishes Republican hypocrisy. And denying committed same-sex couples the rights to enjoy the legal & social benefits of being a Family. And the ongoing looting of social programs & destruction of good-paying jobs--which makes things hard for Families. Especially single-parent Families--but, are they REAL Families? What about the grandparents, struggling with medical expenses?
PEOPLE matter--whether or not they belong to what the Republican Religious Right defines as a "Family."

12. NPR (Neocon Public Relations) broadcast a program on how children should |
|
prepare for terrorist attacks, involving a new "Homeland Security" government agency. Neocon Public Relations didn't think to question the premise involved (what is the real threat, its sources, and from whom is it issuing) or the pervasive fear that is peddled by the government, even starting with the very young.

13. NPR (Neocon Public Relations) also broadcast a program on ethanol and |
|
gave considerable time to a former oil industry man who believes that more energy goes into making ethanol than is obtained from it in its use.
Although some fossil fuel is consumed in seeding and harvesting grain for its use as ethanol, this is not the sole use of grain, nor is grain only produced for the purpose of creating ethanol. In fact, excess grain not used for other purposes can be salvaged as ethanol.
Most important, the energy that ethanol burns is from the sun. It is absorbed into the plant tissues as they transform radiant energy into chemical energy. It is renewable, unlike fossil fuels pulled from the ground; it is, in essence, mass produced fossil fuel created in a calendar year, intead of non-reusable hydrocarbons created over millions of years.
Somehow, NPR's reporter unforgivably failed to point out the most basic reason for using ethanol.

14. My family was discussing this am, what lawyer to call when we go to jail |
|
We were talking about Cindy Sheehan being arrested and subject came up that one of us could just as easily get arrested for anti-war or anti-Bush activism or refusing to comply with Patriot Act demands, so we talked seriously about who would be the best lawyers we know to call on for help.
It is sad when responsible law abiding tax paying citizens who have dutifully served their country as civil servants and in the military have to think about such a possibility.

17. What a grouchy bunch we are>>> |
|
Griping and bitching about the way things are is not helping our cause one little bit. As a matter of fact it is really making us look bad and causing some conflicts in our own group.
We need to get positive, unite and get off of our asses and use the energy we use for bitching to get our candidates elected.
We are in the minority now and we will stay there until we change our attitudes and start being positive and upbeat.
We have a lot to be upbeat about. We have the better ideas for America and we have the better people to get these things done. Preaching the message of sour grapes is doing nothing but hurting our cause.
Off my soapbox now. I am going to have a good day. Won't you join me??
