ELMWOOD PARK - The last council work meeting of the year turned heated when Democrats protested not being invited to a meeting at which the Republican mayor and a GOP councilman discussed selling the borough's water rights.
At Thursday night's council meeting, Mayor Richard Mola said the meeting between him, Councilman Robert Kassai, Chief Financial Officer Roy Riggitanoand a representative from the Passaic Valley Water Commission about two weeks ago was an "exploratory" one. The commission, he said, expressed interest in buying or leasing the operating rights to Elmwood Park's water infrastructure. The borough could save millions of dollars in overtime, labor and repairs, the mayor said.
