IMPEACH: National Guerilla Marketing Day - Sunday 1/8
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 06:55 PM by Tuesday_Morning
I've been doing this (putting up little IMPEACHMENT stickers wherever I go) since right before Christmas and I gotta tell ya:

It's easy - you buy blank labels at the local office supply and directions come right on the box. Carry them with you and just slap them on stuff as you go about your day.

It's satisfying - instead of sitting at your computer, you're out doing something, something that gives you a little thrill each time you slap a sticker on those roach motels at the drugstore or the salt shaker at the restaurant.

It's satisfying to others: A lot of people don't realize just how many impeachment supporters are out here and this is one way to tel folks that they're not alone. I met a guy at a New Year's Eve party last night who saw one of my stickers last week. He said he was so tickled to see it; it made his day!

And now the incomparable Kagro X over at DailyKos takes it to a whole other level.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 9

from Kagro X's recent diary:

Happy New Year! I've saved you the trouble of making resolutions this year, and gone ahead and done it for you. This year, you resolve to do your part in creating the conditions necessary for impeachment, by liberating the word IMPEACH from the clutches of television wonkery, and reminding your neighbors that the time to consider this solemn Constitutional duty is now. Not that it would kill us to lose some weight, but impeachment seems so much better suited to the moment. In fact, I have a great way for us to do both.

It's actually a great idea that comes to me in a rather convoluted way: an e-mail from puckish telling me that Dem in VA had e-mailed her, proposing that Northern Virginia area Kossacks organize an IMPEACH movement coordianted guerrilla action next Sunday, January 8th. If I understand correctly, the idea is to get as many NoVa Kossacks as possible to participate in an effort to paper their areas with the IMPEACH message in preparation for the Monday commute. Highway banners, yard signs, paper fliers stapled to telephone polls, bumper stickers, Avery labels... everything we can throw at them.

So far, the response to the IMPEACH guerrilla marketing movement has been tremendous. At least here on Daily Kos. I've been deluged with e-mails from people who tell me that the ease with which anyone can join in has spurred them to take the kind of action they've been wanting to take for years, but never did -- at least until they found out how many others wanted to do the same thing. I gotta tell you, it's really been inspiring to read them all.

2. Stick fliers between pages of newspapers and put them back in the machines

On Wednesday I distributed fifty double-sided colored fliers outlining Bush's Katrina failure, and urging calls for his impeachment.

Since it was raining, it wouldn't have made much sense to leave them on windshields.

So, this was my placement strategy:

1) Get a big stack of Boston Metro newspapers out of the machine.

2) Place fliers inside copies of The Metro.

3) Put most of the papers back inside the machine.

4) Take a few away with me.

5) Leave copies of The Metro (with my flier inside) on bus stop benches and in laundromats.

When I happened to come across cars with Democrat bumper-stickers, I took a chance with the rain and left fliers on their windshields. I also left about ten fliers on windshields of cars parked where I knew the owners were likely to return before it started raining-- for example, in the McDonald's parking lot, convenience store, etc.

On Friday, I similarly distributed 200 single-sided black/white copies.

Almost every copy of The Metro at one of Brockton's busiest train stations got a copy of the flier stuck in it.

I also left copies (again) at bus stops and laundromats.

A couple times I ran into groups of High School kids and handed them the fliers directly. I also used the opportunity to tell them that The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools to share their information with military recruiters unless they opt-out.

In any case, I can be reasonably sure that the fliers were staying dry and being read.

Some of the fliers I had left on Thursday were still there on Friday. Nobody had taken them and thrown them away.

In fact, on one flier, someone had actually duplicated the headline in pen-- "It Did Not Have To Happen."

I guess someone read the flier, saw the line, "It Did Not Have To Happen," and were so fixated on it that they felt compelled to write that phrase themselves. And then they put it back on the table where they had found it.

If you're interested in having copies of the fliers for yourself, please message me directly.

3. here's a how-to freeway blog link
As one commentor to the diary said:

One person who takes a few minutes (click first link below) to learn how to do this right, then spends a few hours making the freeway blogs and a few hours posting them, can easily impact one million people. There's over 1000 registered at their regional freeway blogger groups already, and growing daily (click first link below, then second scroll box, to see the growth). If 1000 of those spend LESS THAN ONE DAY each doing this, that's ONE BILLION impacts PER DAY.
