Very interesting conversation with a dyed in the wool Bush supporter
She lives in Alabama.
She has been an ardent Bush supporter and it has taken it's toll on our friendship.
Was telling me that the history books were coming out next year with Clinton's impeachment.
She didn't understand the entire impeachment. I explained to her what happened and how it worked.
Told her that the fact that Clinton lied under oath was what got him in trouble, not the actual blow job.
Discussion went a little further and progressed to the fact that I have told her that Bush has been lying and she didn't understand if he was lying, why he wasn't impeached. I then explained to her that Bush has REFUSED to be questioned regarding ANYTHING under oath.
She is a Faux loving sort and of course, she knew nothing about this.
However...she was concerned why he wouldn't allow himself to be questioned under oath. If he were telling the truth as she has believed to be the case--then what difference would it make?
I simply replied "Because he is lying and he isn't going to fall in the same trap that Clinton fell into".
She didn't even rag me about politics after that but seemed to be deep in thought regarding what I told her.
It would be so amazing if people would just quit watching Faux--all propaganda all the time--News.

1. My God there is hope...
It's just too complicated for some people to wrap their heads around.
Think of how much someone has to understand to be able to explain what you did.

It's mindboggling, but there is hope.

2. Plus, it's a political remedy. The founders designed it so that...
...it is in the hands of Congress, not the courts. So if the majority in Congress have no morals, no conscience, only partisan selfishness, they'll never IMPEACH their homeboy, even if he pees on the original Constitution.

6. I think so
because our last few political conversations have not been confrontational at all and this time she was truly seeking knowledge.

12. Perhaps we have come to a turning point
A very similar thing happened with Will Pitt and an aquaintence of his. It very much reminds me of someone with an addiction or a woman in an abusive relationship. They have to be ready to hear info so that they can start making life altering decisions for the better. Until she is ready she will continue to make excuses for the person abusing her, her own self abuse, or supporting a criminal administration that is abusing US & the world.

Good on ya for being there for her when she was ready to start thinking for herself, I wish I had that patience. My MIL is a lovely, intelligent woman who recieves all of the propaganda e-mails and has bought into all of it. I wish I had been strong enough to maintain our relationship throughout the reign of bush* so that I could make a difference in her life when she is ready, but it was too much for me so I have pretty much severed our relationship.

Here's to you, Horse with no Name :toast:

13. So true, what you've said about abused women ...
... I've known a few in my life (sadly), and listening to Bush supporters these days always reminds me of the same statements I used to hear from these women, to whit:

If you knew him like I do, you'd see he's really a good person ...
He loses his temper sometimes, and that's why he says stupid things ...
He can be really rude -- but when we're alone, he's actually quite
different ...
The rumours and gossip about him aren't ALL true ...

The list goes on and on.

7. I don't understand some freepers.
They ardently defend their positions, without ever having studied the facts.

I did not vote for Bush. But, all I had to do was read several chapters of Dean's "Worse than Watergate" and Oneal's "The Price of Loyalty", and I knew what we were dealing with.

8. They have no clue how blind they really are
and slick hucksters on Pox News and talk radio are there all the time to tell them how much smarter than the rest of us they are.

This gang of criminals in the White House has gotten too outrageous for anyone with half a brain at all to ignore, no matter how tuned in to Pox and the right wing howler monkeys on talk radio they are. There is always hope for the majority.

There is no hope of reaching that last 20% or so though, they are the true believers who will cling to the dream of being in the dominant crowd in the country, no matter what, and will always pretend they were the ones overthrown by a corrupt minority.

9. Warpy, you are too funny!
"howler monkeys"- Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! LOL!

And, how true: "dream of being in the dominant crowd in the country"

My repug sister sent out an email mocking the chimp several weeks ago. I suppose she is sensing that the dominant crowd may be shifting a bit!

14. My freeper uncles ...

My freeper uncles were strangely silent this holiday ("Christmas") season. I suspect the spying issue had something to do with it.

BTW, my uncles are good people. They have just been hoodwinked by a bunch of con-jobs.
