We are gonna win this, you know.
They can't win.

We just better not lose, you know??

It is interesting to me, somewhat, that the Alito nomination had such a facination with so many.

WHY?? - The MORON had 55 votes going in. We were going to lose. The question was if we could put up a fight - AND WE REALLY DID!! I am proud.

It is just a battle in a war of ideas - and you can lose a battle and win a war at the same time.

When I think of rebublicans, really, I think of the SIMPSONS, "Kang" inserting talking points to subjects on earth, you know?? The reason we lose, sometimes, is WE THINK. It may be a weakness sometimes, but it is also our greatest strength.

They are not going to win unless we lose. And the fight of our generation is coming down in a few months. They only win if we really f-up.

It is really important to note the events of the past weeks. I really believe the abilities of our generation are defined on the internet - God, help me, I really do.

I listened to the CFO of the republican party define "our" contribution to political discourse in dollars and cents-republican and democrat. And I thought then and now, what an idiot.

Our contributions to parties are refined into votes. How many dollars per vote gained?? I am a financial person, that guy is an idiot. And we proved it over these past weeks.

They will lose, as long as we do not really f-up. And that is not going to happen. They underestimated the internet - they will pay for that.

I am SO looking forward to November.

Joe

2. Thanks for the encouraging attitude.........
Deep in my gut I have confidence that good will prevail. Something tells me thinking is better than obeying. That everything I've known about human goodness and justice and strength will have to appear in our political discourse and lives.

Fear is our biggest enemy, and truth is their biggest enemy. I bet we overcome ours before they overcome theirs. I'm ready.

Thanks for getting me pumped up, JfC. :headbang:

3. You guys got it.
"The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself" FDR

I am not afraid, and you guys are not afraid - so bring it on "W".

We will win. Just have to wait a few months. I can wait.

4. Those are good, strong sentiments.
applaud your thinking and resolve.

However an analogy comes to mind.

If Sheep Could Think

If sheep could think about their situation, they might have ideas about why they are being led around and even consider ways to break free from being herded. That is all fine and dandy, but we all know that the thinking sheep would only be consoling themselves with ideas and that thier actions and attempts would be mostly futile. After all, it is the sheepherder's game, to say the least.

We are dealing with a very complex and interconnected, multi-faceted system in today's world. What we call life is more like an onion skin of related levels and hierarchy. To get enough of a grip on that and see a larger context requires much time, research, and discernment.

Form there, you can see the Achilles heel of the masses and how they can be herded in rather obvious ways with sub rosa agenda based on precise, even scientific, methodology. With enough money, expertise, and observation, I think it is easier to predict and direct the overall activity and reactions of a large mass of people -- and then direct it accordingly -- then it is for the average person to do the same with individuals or their own lives. Issac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy described a futuristic, predictive science similar to what I am suggesting.

If you are connected by abstract umbilical cords to the vast, corporate machine -- now ensconced with the rights of an individual, hence an equal to actual persons, yet merely a soulless, abstract entity-as-profit vehicle -- then you are also dependent on it. This is where some reflection and deep contemplation is essential prior to acting and in lieu of rather insignificant exclamations of shock, disgust, and protest.

When it becomes clear that you, me, all of us, as the people, are being pushed into a an intellectual corner, then it it should be self-evident that any serious, sincere, and dedicated response is going to require much, much more than a vocal response – as if merely voting – for repelling the obvious and encroaching, fascist Police State that is now forged from the unholy triangle of the merging and consolidation of State, Corporation, and Religion.

There were some striking similarities to today's Neocon Brand Republicans and the Federalists under John Adams at the end of the 18th Century. That was checked and repelled by Thomas Jefferson's Presidency. Today, among the differences in this historical repetition, are the overpowering technologies and the very obvious Fundamentalist base that are easily convinced, with smoke and mirrors, to vote against their own, best interests, based on abstract and ideological machinations which require a sophisticated and informed investigation in order to be revealed and repelled for the subjugation and manipulation that they are.

7. Damn, good cogent thoughts.
And that is why we are democrats.

I believe, sick to my stomache, 4 or 5 kids a day will die in God forsaken Iraq between then and now. WHY??

I know, there may be a fight coming - a real fight. AND I KNOW THIS IDIOT blew the guts out of our best and finest in some God forsaken road in Iraq. For what??? Well, I know.

I am a moderate person. I know war is the only answer, sometimes. But I also know this idiot blew the guts out of our finest in a no win situation. I will never forgive him the indiscretion. I know what he did to my kid - to alot of kids. Not going to happen again.

He is going to lose here. We just have to win. We will.

For all the shit we had to suck up, November will smell very sweet. We really proved what we can do. We just have to do it.

...DUers simply get up and get involved in the party itself on the ground level:

11. You got it.
I was born in PA, brought up in CA, and I do like Texas.

We beat the bastard in Texas - and we win for good. I cannot imagine Austin EVER wanting him back.

Oh, guys - we really can win here. We will. Soon.

10. Yep - dynamite.
They will lose.

Shit, first time the odds were even or in our favor in six years.

I want to win cause they lose - and they can't win cause we lose - we care.

It is all good, sometimes. Interesting months coming.

12. Hey Joe,
This is a great post. I wish I could agree with more of it than I do, but I'll keep that to myself.

But what a simple and powerful truth you speak:

They are not going to win unless we lose.

You are absolutely right, man. And we won't lose unless we give up. So we just gotta keep on plugging away.

Peace!!

13. Oh Megan, we are going to win.
There is a truth. We really do believe in what has to be done - I don't think they do.

I understand your post - it is smart.

I think sometimes, the simple things are truest. I think it is now.

It is going to be a great fall this year.

Best,

Joe

14. Um ...
It only takes 41 votes to filibuster. There are 44 Dems. in the Senate. Alito's confirmation was in no was a foregone conclusion. Thanks for trying to make us feel better about our bitter defeat, but it still tastes bitter to me.

That said, it is clear we accomplished something. We got the attention of the party. We got 25 votes (and that's 25 more than some thought we'd get), but we still lost. We are in deep, deep trouble when we start counting losses as victories. Speaking for myself, I'm still a member of the reality-based community. We lost. I will not buy an argument that says we really won.
