The AUMF must be rescinded by Congress, NOW! |
|
This is effing ridiculous. The Congress needs to return to its Constitutional duty of being the sole branch of government entrusted by law to declare war.
Bushco is going to bomb Iran, sooner rather than later. This is some serious major shit coming down the pike, they're ramping this one up fast.
This is it. We have GOT to insist that Congress put the brakes on this crew. There is no excuse for allowing these sociopaths to continue their crime spree!

2. Yeah, well Biden talks a good game, but he folds when it comes to action. |

It only deepens my despair to think that the fate of the world rests in the hands of such paragons of courage as the DC Establishment Dems.

3. I agree that the AUMF should be repealed. Unfortunately, that would not have much |
|
of a practical effect. It would do much to isolate the President, however. Then, the Congress should threaten to slowly eliminate funding for the Iraq War unless Bush pulls out.
With the majority of America and Congress opposed to staying in Iraq and with an explicit resolution from Congress rescinding any authorization - explicit and implicit - to continue, I believe President Bush would begin withdrawing.

4. I'm talking about Iran, not Iraq. It has to made clear that widening the war is NOT authorized. |
|
It's absolutely essential that Congress remove bush's war powers a.s.a.p. Otherwise, we're going to see Iran used as a testing ground for the lovely new generation of nuclear weapons technology.
I find that an absolutely unacceptable prospect. I want our Constitution put into practice NOW.

5. I can definitely get behind that. So far the AUMF has been interpreted to allow |

just about everything under the sun and Congress needs to put a stop to it.
Bush would still justify any Iran action by claiming that Iran has attacked U.S. troops in Iraq via the insurgency but that should be his only possible justification. Congress should not let him rely on the AUMF.
The American public nor Congress will buy the Iran-though-Iraq justification for Bush using his C-in-C powers to invade Iran.
I completely agree and advocate it 100%: A resolution needs to be passed which explicitly denies any possible authorization given by the AUMF regarding Iran.

9. Thank you! Do you by any chance have that 800 # for calling Congress? |

I know I can search it out, but if you happened to have it handy I'd like to see it get posted in this thread as soon as possible.
I'm glad to hear that Rep. Farr's on the ball about this, I'm going to call my own congressman right now.
Thanks again, sw
