I am wondering if you will invite Ann Coulter on and lambast her for her "joke" about poisoning Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens. I believe her exact quote was "We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee." I am wondering if you lambast a fellow travelling America hating, terroristic threatening Neo-Conservative?

Julian Bond

Civil rights activist and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond
delivered a blistering partisan speech at Fayetteville
State University in North Carolina last night,
equating the Republican Party with the Nazi Party and
characterizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and
her predecessor, Colin Powell, as "tokens."

"The Republican Party would have the American flag and
the swastika flying side by side," he charged.

Calling President Bush a liar, Bond told the audience
at the historically black institution that this White
House's lies are more serious than the lies of his
predecessor's because Clinton's lies didn't kill
people.


"We now find ourselves refighting old battles we
thought we had already won," he said. "We have to
fight discrimination whenever it raises its ugly
head."

He referred to former Attorney General John Ashcroft
as J. Edgar Ashcroft. He compared Bush's judicial
nominees to the Taliban.

The talk so infuriated at least one black family in
attendance among the 900 in the auditorium that they
got up and walked out in protest.

"He went on and on name calling," said Lee Wilson. "I
walked out in the middle of his speech with my wife
and three kids"

The harsh partisan rhetoric from Bond should not have
surprised anyone who has followed him in recent years.


In July 2001, Bond said, " has selected nominees
from the Taliban wing of American politics, appeased
the wretched appetites of the extreme right wing, and
chosen Cabinet officials whose devotion to the
Confederacy is nearly canine in its uncritical
affection."

I actually agree with a lot of what Bond has to say, but come on. When Chris Matthews equated Michael Moore and Osama bin Laden, we stood up for him. Why wouldn't Tucker the Blowhard Carlson stick up for his side?

I believe one group has actually pursued the Coulter thing. I wrote a letter to the Attorney General of Arizona asking him to take action, but was referred to the DA in Pulaski (I think this was the place, I don't have the email anymore) County.

I'm not saying that I disagree with Bond--in truth, I think he, and everyone else saying the same things he has said, are absolutely correct.

The thing is, both sides believe that they are right. I believe that we are right--that they are wrong. So, that's my stand and in a free country, I reserve the right to defend it to my last breath.

Every American has a right to free speech (sort of) and that means that you have to be able to hear someone say something that makes your blood boil without trying to take that right away from them, if you want to preserve it for yourself and for posterity.

That's intellectual honesty.

Maybe Chris Matthews honestly believes that there is a similarity between OBL and Moore. I doubt it, but it's possible. What he said was incorrect, it was rude and abusive, but he had a right to say it. We have a right to be outraged, but that's all.

Unless someone makes a Coulter-esque remark urging people to take up arms against Julian Bond, then they are just showing that he pissed them off.

Which was, of course, the point.
