Tin foil hat time - detention and processing facilities
I found a notice regarding a new contract that Halliburton just received.
http://today.reuters.com/stocks/QuoteCompanyNewsArticle.aspx?view=PR&symbol=HAL.N&storyID=243157+24-Jan-2006+BW

$385 million for a detention facilities under control of Homeland security. The reason stated was "The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities toaugment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the
U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."

I'm sorry, but that really freaks me out. Unless Halliburton totally cheats the taxpayer, that much money could build detention camps for 150,000 people. Exactly why do we need this?

1. Don't you know?
America does big business in prisons and prisoners.

America, the Land of the Free, holds more prisoners than China.

Big money.

5. Yeah.
No other country, in total or per capita, holds more prisoners.

4. Need someplace to put all of those
quakers ,anti-war protesters and liberals that shrubs warrant less wire taps capture. Without due process god knows how long they will be ware housed so we need lots of room to hide them away. Can you say concentration camp?

We'll be there too. At least we will be in good company. This is so damn scary.

6. This is what I find worrisome:
"...or to support the rapid development of new programs." The first scenario, an emergency influx of immigrants, doesn't seem all that likely. What kind of "new programs" would necessitate a lot of new detention space?

8. I wonder who is cooking up those "programs"
Dick Cheney, with his henchman Rummy, no doubt.

Because after all, once you've built the prisons, you have to fill them so that KBR can get another contract to feed them and all of that.

This is absolutely unreal.

10. Sounds like they will be rounding up a "certain type"
group very soon. Will they start with immigrants and move on to dissenters?

14. Not sure they will even bother with the immigrants.
They are, after all, cheap labor. :(

12. I think
that once we reach a certain level of collapse (from peak oil, bird flu, economic depression, etc.), there will be no shortage of new programs which will require detaining large numbers of people.

11. Protesters.
New laws will help fill these prisons.

We've never had a problem with filling prisons.

...or profiting from other's misfortune.
