Serious Question: Does Tom Toles need visible support? |
|
Tom Toles' cartoons are often right on the mark - and the cartoon in question is obviously not derogatory toward the troops. He is mocking Rumsfeld.
But the right noise machine has geared up to punish him. Notwithstanding the lack of concern on their part when the RNC mocked vietnam veteran's war wounds with purple-heart band-aids and didn't rise up to protect the citizenry from Ann Coulter's screeching about Max Cleland. Not to mention McCain and Murtha.
It is okay to abuse actual veterans, but not to show an injured soldier as a metaphor for this administration's blinders?
So - off my soapbox - is Tom Tole's REALLY in trouble? Do we need to mobilize to write LTTE and the WaPo to help defend him?
Please let me know - I don't want this man to feel that we threw him to the wolves because we couldn't believe that people were TRULY offended by the cartoon.

2. Saw Daryl Cagle (Toles' distributer) on Hannity and colmes.. |
|
...last night. It was an amazing display. Cagle looked like he'd stumbled into the Twilite Zone and had this incredulous "Do you guys REALLY not get this?" look on his face. Hannity was in rare form, hammering his 'point' about how wrong it was to use disabled veterans for political purposes. He's becoming a parody of himself.
On the positive side, the RW Noise Machine is really scraping the bottom for topics.
