1. Freedom to be free also meant accepting those you don't agree with.
:(

Now back to my doodlings of Jesus and Mohhamad getting jiggy with Samantha Stevens...

2. For whatever reason, I just remembered a question put to Sam Donaldson, of
all people, about flag burning, and whether it is protected.

He said yes, and it's always going to be the "jerks" that test our freedoms.

3. Free doesn't mean death threats. That's where it stops.

4. Tell that to DiFi. She is cosponsoring an amendment to
protect the flag... making the flag a sacred object. Limiting free speech and expression. So hey, more than a little craziness in the usa too.

17. Exactly!
If there is one thing I hate, it's fucking "flag" legislation. What a waste of time and money. Doesn't she have anything better to do.

10. Does it call for death?
A boycott? Is it founded in religious dogma, openly proclaiming intolerance as a virtue?

And is it likely to pass, with people being afraid to discuss it lest they be taken hostage, or websites declare a "crusade" (not a metaphorical one, but one with actual blood as the goal)? Or is it being imposed by decree?

Moreover, is the penalty to be instituted and threatened worldwide, so that if, say, a Miao burns the flag, we riot and call for death to Miaos?

People compare words with words and decide that they're the same: words. As though referents were a thing of the past. Me thinks some language-use permits need revoked.

13. Of course jail time is nicer than being killed. However, it is still
a great violence.
It is a kind of fanaticism, with a legal face.

16. Ah, yes...
Should we from this point onward refer to this as the "Idolatry Amendment?"

no strings attached.

9. Actually, there have been some revisions to that . . .
Freedom is slavery.

Also, we've amended "the truth will set you free" to "Ignorance is strength" which has been translated into catchy bumper stickers that say "The Power of Pride."

And by the way, as you heard in Bush's SOTU the other night: war is peace.

6. Preach it Brother!
As someone who can arrested any day of the week for the heinous crime of selling a movie made by and for consenting adults - this can never be said enough.

Free Speech is absolute!

7. The only reasonable exception
in my opinion are those things that may create an immediate environment of danger to the public. Inciting a riot, the 'fire' in a crowded theater, etc...

Dissent, in whatever form, is NEVER to be abridged. And shame on anyone who thinks otherwise.

11. And people shouldn't be ashamed to
publically shame those willing to sacrifice freedom of speech (or press) for trivialities.

for telling the truth. Or hedge their bets when other truth-tellers are questioned.
