Rumsfeld: Terror Threat High
Thursday, February 02, 2006

WASHINGTON — America has made progress in the War on Terror, but the threat today may be greater than ever before because the available weapons are far more dangerous, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday.

"The enemy — while weakened and under pressure — is still capable of global reach, and still possesses the determination to kill more Americans — and to do so with the world's most dangerous weapons," Rumsfeld said in remarks prepared for delivery at the National Press Club.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2006 – Terrorists have failed repeatedly to meet their objectives in Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said here today.

"They failed to stop the January elections, they failed to stop the drafting of the constitution, they failed to stop the referendum on the constitution, they failed to stop the most recent election, they failed to stop the seating of the parliament, they're going to fail to stop the seating of a new government," Rumsfeld said at a Pentagon news briefing. "They are on the run. ... They have failed in almost everything they have tried to do thus far."

Rumsfeld reiterated President Bush's assertion in last night's State of the Union address that extremists aim to establish a totalitarian regime in Iraq and throughout the Middle East.

3. 1) Um because of need for perpetual war?
2)To validate the never-ending escalation of the Becthel-Halliburton-Lockheed-Dyncorp-Boeing- Pentagon budgets?

3)To validate further incursions into resource rich regions, say West Africa?

4)To build more big boy toys of death and destruction the need to create ephemeral. ever elusive enemies?

5)To pound fear into the public conscious as their lives deterioriate due to the 2nd point?
