A videotape released Tuesday shows a sheriff’s deputy shooting an unarmed Air Force policeman who recently returned from Iraq as he appeared to obey an order to get up off the ground.

Here is a link to the video.

Holy fucking shit this fucked up. I'm glad the victim here was not killed by this fucking criminal with a badge. I guess its a good thing that the deputy in this case was so fucking incompetent that despite point blank range and a prone victim that he didnt fire any leathal shots. Its also good that someone video taped this shit because I'm sure if it wasnt then the officer would have just claimed that he was attacked, and his actions were justified.

Perhaps its time for us all to invest in some bulletproof vests incase I ever run into a fucknut like this. Incompotent power tripping cops scare me way the fuck more than criminals ever would.

This fucking cop needs to be strung up in the worst way. This kind of shit is what made my dad say he was ashamed of being a police officer at times after the Rodney King beating.

I have defended the police before in some situations, but this shit? NO WAY IN HELL. :grr:

Valdes acknowledges that his amateur recording, the memory of which has kept him awake for the past three nights, will probably thrust him and his family into complex legal proceedings and the public eye.

"It'll be a long hard time ahead," Valdes said in Spanish. "I have two daughters, a wife, a job — but I can't not do this for the guy."
...
Valdes released the recording to a KTLA Channel 5 news reporter Monday. The station, which is owned by Los Angeles Times parent Tribune Co., paid $5,000 for exclusive rights to the footage, Valdes said. He said he wanted the tape to be shared with other news outlets, and for KTLA to donate the money to Carrion's wife.
The public should see this, Valdes said.

"The enemy didn't touch that guy" in Iraq, he said. "He was saved in Iraq only to be shot by one of his own."

Valdes said the incident was a chilly reminder of his own youth in the Cuban military: After returning home to Havana after two years of fighting in Angola, he said, police severely beat him for visiting a prohibited store.

Cuban officials could not be reached Wednesday to confirm or comment on Valdes' allegations.

Valdes said he and his longtime partner, Grecy Duarte, immigrated to the United States by boat in April 1993, seeking political asylum.

"To see what I saw, I felt like I was there," Valdes said of the altercation outside his home. "I felt like I was the guy; like I was 21 years old once again, that I had just come back from the war.

"I lived through that," Valdes said. "The same thing happened to me in my country."

This was from before he was arrested. It seems to me that he knew that they would probably dig up his past and get him, but despite that he went out of his way to do the right thing. I'm unsure if he is an American citizen but in my mind he is definately a good American. He had the balls to do the right thing even if it cost him. If it wasnt for him the officer in this case would have likely just brushed this under the carpet and claimed self defense.

14. California Officer shoots Vet
99% of the time an officer tells people to get on the ground as a means of controlling the individual and this so-called cop tells he to get up. That cop needs to never......carry a gun again. But wait and see, his father will probably get him off.
I wonder if we can get a tax deduction if we purchase body armor, or will our local police station issue it

15. Someone told me that the deputy sheriff worked ..
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 11:02 PM by Maat
for San Bernardino County (in the Colton area). That was the county I worked for as a social worker, but that was six years ago, and I do not recognize the deputy's name. What a weird incident.

The deputy deserves (from what I've read and heard) to go to prison for a long time.

I have to say, though, that the deputies I worked with were very, very well-trained and professional, and always helped me keep the parents and kids calm and safe in the most dire of situations.

I hate to see this nutcase give those hardworking, careful deputies a bad name.
