The Book of Daniel was a big loss
I have seen the two episodes that would have aired last week and tonight at this address:

http://www.nbc.com/The_Book_of_Daniel/play.shtml#video

Unfortunately last weeks is gone but the climatic scene which made that week starts this one and this weeks was stunning. Warning you won't ever listen to Time After Time the same way again.

8. I think a combination of low ratings and the protests
I liked the show from the beginning and these last two episodes were very powerful TV. I wish networks would be more patient. Shows like MASH, Cheers, All in the Family, and Hill Street Blues took time to catch on. Under today's version of network management none of those shows would have lasted.

10. Gee, thanks NBC for giving us a chance to see it.
So, two weeks and that's it, huh? Oh, wait... I forgot, robertson and falwell hated it (not that they ever watched an episode), so it must be stricken from the airwaves...

The last few minutes were an amazing use of imagery and should be taught in film school. It was damn powerful.

18. why the hell are we not doing our own email campaign
i watched daniel first one. i pulled from it finally the essence of christ. the perfectly imperfect and still loved. so many wonderful lines..... showing love. not anger hate fear. beyond a lot of people in the spiritual word, but in time, would have been a wonderful gift for this nation, in healing, in my voice of christianity. why so damgerous to the right. and they took it off. i am in the majority. at least 60%.... 30% took it off. why dont we have a email campaign. now that it has been pulled, explaining the grace we felt in the show. that it wasnt evil. why dont we educate in voice.

19. Face it
You are going to have to pay to get good TV. My favorite show almost ever was Six Feet Under. (HBO) You would never see anything that good or honest on regular tv. Oh no siree-you've got Home Makeover-and the premise of this show is so stupid to me-yes give people a bunch of money-and they can build a brand new house! Yes, money is the magic cure. I don't get that show. Cry when you get the new house. Yes, give money to the disadvantaged and they cry. I don't begrudge them their luck but damn it just irks me.

Anyhoo-the other great show they are thinking of canceling is Arrested Development-ironically on Fox-and it is one of the funniest out there. Supposedly it might go to Showtime. The L word, Weeds, on and on-TV that's could possibly offend the red states-well luckily us "elites" can afford the good stuff. Oh and if you want out there-there is a new one about polygamy coming to HBO in a couple weeks.

But the fact that the Book of Daniel wasn't given a chance is too sad. Two shows is not enough for ratings. Besides, friday night is a bad night anyway-another cable channel should pick it up. That's what cable is for-you don't see the Daily Show on ABC now do you? And Politically inccorect was cancelled. Bill Maher could never say the things he does about being anti-religion on primetime.

20. I like that show the Crumbs
it has a lot of "political" stuff, but all couched in big time humor, like when the mother went in for therapy, and the divorcee group was such a drag, she went over to the "getting over meth withdrawal" group.

21. Wasn't that cancelled
because NBC Tower was burned down and Aidan Quinn received death threats, and the South demanded the UN impose resolutions against the US?

22. Nah, it was cancelled because it sucked. Great Premise-Terrible Writing
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 02:03 PM by cryingshame
it was as if the writers tried to figure how much angst and sticky situations they could shove into one episode.

or this Friday's you wouldn't say that. Both episodes are amazing. No show starts off perfect this one became very good.

26. Please, Cryingshame...
...most people here want to believe that The Book of Daniel was brought down by a right-wing conspiracy; that fundies do indeed control the television media.

It wasn't the sophomoric writing, the utter implausibility of events presented as real-life scenarios, poor editing, etc. Did I mention the awful, sophomoric writing?

Perhaps the American TV watching public is not completely ignorant on every single level...perhaps they realize horrid, sophomoric writing and utterly implausible sequences of events as bad television?

No, couldn't happen...had to be James Dobson...

27. It was both ratings and the boycot
Three weeks is an amazingly short time for a series to be cancelled. Especially with no replacement scheduled whatsoever. Last week's replacement was an old Law and Order.
