Congresswoman Maxine Waters Says Bush Guilty of Impeachable Offenses

Rep. Maxine Waters said of Bush, prior to the State of the Union: "His message tonight will not deal honestly with the mistakes that he's made. And I believe that the latest revelations about him and his spying on American citizens - no matter how he tries to frame it - are impeachable offenses. I believe that this president is not only spying on American citizens in the way that he's describing it, but to indicate in any shape form or fashion that he's been authorized by Congress to do it on the vote that was taken after 9-11 is plain dishonest. And further to try to imply that he's supported by the Constitution of the United States is even more dishonest. And so, I think that this issue that he's been caught red-handed on is really typical of who he is, how he handles this presidency, and what his leadership is all about: spying and lying. And I think it is important for us to understand that all of the other issues that we're going to talk about today - and particularly the war in Iraq - will continue to exemplify how he has lied and misled the American public."

Thank Rep. Waters for speaking up for impeachment:

2. Spying and Lying
I was just saying this to my sister, the pardon of those involved in Iran Contra was wrong,
much of what is wrong has come from the orignal White House plumbers and minor players in Iran Contra. Spying and Lying will be the keywords for this administration.

4. INTRODUCE ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT ALREADY!!
It only takes one representative JUST DO IT.

I don't care what the odds are, the American people will rally so strongly behind Maxine Waters the rest of the House will be forced to listen.

These are the times that heroes are made!

Here's a link that will take you to the site, which will provide you with a transcript of the proceedings. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2438452

I encourage you all to write your representatives asking for more of these online town hall meetings. I think it's a great forum for connecting people like you and me to the democratic process.

14. Is this about the spying?
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 02:56 PM by Marleyb
This seems like it is about the war in which case they should have already introduced this.

And we have the goods on them, the illegal spying is cut and dry.we don't need a committee to study it. This is more stalling.

Nixon resigned over illegal spying. They created the FISA law to prevent it from happening again. Bush broke the law. What more do we need?

What they are supposed to do is introduce articles of impeachment. Someone on DU already wrote them up, they don't even need to ask their staff do to it...

The job of congress is to uphold the constitution. Anyone else in the real world who fails to do their most basic duty at work gets fired no?

16. Kucinich knows it is illegal
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x321671

...and yet he is not taking action. He's not on this list either. I just don't understand

I think that if just one of them made a move, hold a press conference and then introduce articles of impeachment on the House floor...
Americans everywhere would rise up in support and even the republicans would have to set aside their partisan ways and do the right thing. It's just so damn obvious what needs to be done here.

25. a letter to my congresscritter:
I just sent this letter to Jay Inslee of Washington's 1 LD:

"Dear Representative Inslee,

I urge in the strongest possible terms, to support to the fullest, House Resolution 635 "Creating a select committee to investigate the Administration's intent to go to war before congressional authorization, manipulation of pre-war intelligence, encouraging and countenancing torture, retaliating against critics, and to make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment."

The possibility of innocence of the sitting President of High Crimes and Misdemeanors is so vanishingly small as to be statistically insignificant; the threat of irremediable damage to the Constitution of this Nation is so high as to be statistically near unity. For the good of the Nation, We, the People, must take the strongest possible action as soon as is humanly possible; for the sake of our standing in the Community of nations, We, the People, must with equal fervor and celerity repudiate the illegal actions of the President, done in the names of the People of America.

This is a crucial time in the life of our nation; actions taken today will bear a great deal on actions taken in the next nine months... and our Nation's standing in the world WILL be of primary importance in my, and my friends' deliberations this fall. I trust you will continue to place honor and justice in their high place in political affairs.

Thank you, Congressman Inslee!"

8. Go Maxine!!!I I challenge you to set up an on-line poll.
You will be amazed at the number of people who indicate support for your efforts. Someone has to start the ball rolling. The time for talk about it is over. If every politico in Washington polled his constituency, I bet heads would spin. Then again, there are always the freepers. How much harder do we have to fight for recognition on this issue? When the majority is questioning leadership in this degree, doesn't that tell our congressmen that we expect them to act, not just talk about it. Please start the ball rolling, Ms. Waters. Not just talk, which we do appreciate. I mean real, honest to goodness action.

can we gain enough to pass articles of impeachment? Because if we make gains in the house, I think it will certainly be an issue.

29. From what I understand
if we keep all the House seats we have now we only need fourteen more to have the majority. There are fifty something democratic vets running for either Congress or Senate so I think it's possible.

that MSNBC poll showed 86% Thae Alito thing was kind of a setback though.
IMHO this is what has to happen. I just don't think things can really get much better without impeachment.

22. Impeachment, Court-Martial, I support any remedy absolutely!
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 04:58 AM by DarkmoonIkonoklast
... but PLEASE let's not remove the puppet and allow the puppet masters, the rest of this evil cabal, to continue in place: along with Dumbya, Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice (for starters!) and every other member of this unholy pandaemon MUST GO!

There is a sort of businessperson who moves in on a company, milks it for all it's worth then, tossing the bloodless remains aside, moves on to the next warm corporate body leaving workers jobless, broke and scared, and stockholders gazing in shock at their suddenly worthless portfolios. I can't help likening this administration, those who join them at the feed trough, and those who support them, to just such a swarm of locusts.

I bet the "Texas Observer" would be a good source of names of the most important locusts... after all, that paper has been afflicting the powerful in Texas for more than half a century.

TAKE OUR NATION BACK!

LIBERTY TODAY, LIBERTY TOMORROW, LIBERTY FOREVER!

24. How can I help to make it so...
... with no ready cash (I'm on SSI), uncertain health, no social skills, no personal computer, (I'm currently using the system of a friend's 16-y.o. daughter) and an uncertain housing situation?

I'm a Blue-state (Western Washington) former (NOT "ex"!!) Marine (1967-69) who never renounced my oath to fight "all enemies, foreign and domestic"... All I have is a certain facility with language (or so I'm told!), a burning rage against the brigands who've stolen my babies' birthright as Americans (and are threatening their lives and futures!) and an equally blazing need to restore some semblance of freedom to my homeland before my kids have to face martial law, a draft, and a lifetime of living under Big Brother.

Any suggestions?

27. Sen Spector has stated that it was Illegal Spying.
What is now needed is for Republicans to get on board with the Impeachment of Bush/Cheney. It is undeniable that the Bush Admin. broke the law on many occassions.
