Never really cared for her myself. Much of what she said applied to very bored upper class elities. She should have had a talk with my mother who had to work and support a family during the "birth" of the woman's movement.

I'm pretty sure my Mom would have given anything to be able to stay at home and be with us kids. She's often said that's the one thing she regrets.

Oh well prayers for her family.

The Communist battle axe passes away.
Never again will I hear her hysterical voice complaining how U.S. (read capitalist) society oppresses women.

Btw... she was no regular housewife. She was very much around the world while servants took care of her comfortable concentration camp.

Her revolutionary book, The Feminine Mystique was published in 1963, and she founded the National Organization of Women.

Here's a bit of information on her. http://www.greatwomen.org/women.php?action=viewone&id=62

"butt ugly" bitch, but reading the comments the freepers wrote actually made me cry...

I am sad at this fine woman's passing, but I am also sad that there are people out there who befoul her legacy.

I have been at home for two year raising my daughter because I do believe it is one of the most important things I can do in my life. But I also know that there are other callings to which I must answer.

The true women's liberation movement was about having choices, knowing that you can be more than a breeding machine, but also knowing that choosing the bear and raise your children is your choice and yours alone, not one mandated by society.

12. These addle-brained idiots don't understand the concept of choice
in anything. It is their way or the highway.
What they don't realize is that many women welcomed the choice to be able to be something more than a brood mare.
And for the one who so idiotically stated that it's mom wishes she had stayed home--undoubtedly because her children turned out so badly, judging by the hate filled comments they spew, that she wished she would have tried something different.

17. I think it is really good for mothers who are able to stay home and care..
for their children, or the fathers, which is becoming not exactly common, but more accepted.

I've been using the time I have been lucky enough to be able to afford to spend with my daughter as a chance not only to bond with her but to hone my writing skills and get my work out there--I guess in my line of work, it is easier to do both, but now I am just rambling...

Ugh I have a headache and I can't think straight...

30. It is about choice
Choice to have a child...or not.
Choice to work outside the home...or not.
Nobody should be judged by their personal choices and nobody should have the right to make them for anyone.
I was not able to stay home when my kids were little.
I was a single parent and had to work.
I also went to school so there was a period of time that I wasn't home much at all.
However, I have an opportunity to stay home and help raise my granddaughter now.
I adore this.
However, I am not foolish enough to think that I could have made different choices all those years ago.
You do what you gotta do.

this is the point those freaks missed when they were defiling the memory of a visionary.

100 years ago, we didn't have the right to make that choice in the eyes of society. Today, it's starting to come under attack again, and that's a scary prospect...

I have less argument with the original feminists than the ones of today. The
ones of Friedan's time wanted women to go beyond the traditional roles of
mothers, nurses, teachers, etc. It was a too-narrow scope for some women. I
understand that and have met some women who would have wasted their talents
trying to be what women were expected to be in the 1950s. However, the modern
feminist is basically a hypocrite who wants all the advantages of womanhood when
it is convenient to be women and all the advantages of manhood when it is
convenient to be men. And their normal M.O. is to attack and belittle men rather
than attempt to improve women by producing more complete, competent ladies
instead of more stupid and subservient men.

My dear fellow.... I'm not Christian at all; however, I support family friend
Don Feder's attempts to stop the defamation of Christians.

Also, I rechecked about Betty Friedan's commie lover (he was an assistant
physicist to the Soviet sympathizer, Robert Oppenheimer) and the name is not
given; ergo, I do not know if it was Ted Hall or not -- my apologies!

The idea that women who stay home with their children are "wasting" their
education is one of feminisms greatest and dirtiest lies. What are children,
chopped liver?
I don't disagree but it's not for everyone. I've met some women who were
horrible mothers. It just wasn't in their nature. It didn't make them worthless
though. Their talents lay elsewhere.

Many men are good carpenters. I am not. But if society expected me to be a
carpenter all day, I'd be unhappy and feel my strengths were wasted. It doesn't
mean carpentry is a waste or a bad thing. It just means I know my limitations.

"She was right and she was wrong."
Those of us who opposed her did not necessarily disagree with the problems and
inequities that needed to be addressed. There are those who desire to SOLVE
problems and those who EXPLOIT problems. She poured gasoline on flames. She
feigned caring about women; when in fact, she and her fellow cohorts from hell
cared for nothing more than self-gratification, power and every other negative
self-serving attribute you can think of.

The Taliban Christians don't need any help with their reputation! They are
giving ALL Christians, including those that follow Jesus (remember him?) a bad
name. They need to go back and read the Gospels. Jesus came to teach us that we
are to love each other, even our enemies, and He went on further to let the
Pharisees, the church leaders of the day, know that they were HYPOCRITES. We now
have a new generation of "pharisees"; the fundamentalist hypocrites!

34. Betty was a great American. An underrated one, too.
I am old enough to remember the incredible change from the late '60s to the late '70s. And my daughter is now a beneficiary. My mom wasn't so lucky; raised two boys in the '50s-60s with no husband (he split). She's gone now, but I am still amazed at her accomplishments. Believe me, she knew what women faced "on the ground," and was a feminist without labeling herself as such. She and Betty would have hit it off.

44. And people they owe a debt of gratitude.
Hey, female freeps! Before Betty, you would have been laughed out of any public political discussion.

At least, now I can laugh at them on an equal basis.

37. What a bunch closed minded assholes...
These people are really sick. When somebody doesn't fit into their cookie-cutter world of ignorance, they have to attack them at all cost even when they pass away and they no respect for those who stood up to change the world for the better. But what do I expect, they are nothing more than simple minded freepers who have no respect for change of any kind.

He loved when people died, too. And wars, Jesus loved wars. Wholeale slaughtering of men, women & kids, Jesus was really into that.

Yep, them "compassionate conservatives" sure make Jesus proud!

39. "She should have had a talk with my mother who had to work and support ...
a family during the "birth" of the woman's movement."
WTF is that supposed to mean? Did Betty Freidan turn the economic climate so to that single Mom's had to work? What was the alternative? Welfare?
These asshole possess no logic at all!

41. Nope. They'll never understand that it was precisely those
Moms that were helped most by Freidan's work.

You're welcome, oh clueless ones.
